PhotoSync app. Been around for over a decade. On WiFi + charging at 2:00am = trigger backup to share (and about 25 other cloud locations, should you choose).
Does anyone have a synology comparable models. For example some synology models have face detection while some models have both face and object detection for photos if someone is looking to move from cloud storage.
Also some synology models have 2.5gbps ethernet, and some have expansion ports while others have addl USB for external drives. Most people end up buying a Nas not realizing what they miss and they end up buying one more. Please do all your research before getting stuck with something missing important features, or something with features you won't need and pay for it.
And these will eventually fail too, icloud doesnt. This just gives you a "performance" tier for faster restores but you should also have a cold storage tier, at least idrive or backblaze
Some people want to own their data infrastructure stack

Lol if you think that's the only positive to using NAS.

I'm not clear on how this is better than just owning a desktop computer.
Easy: it sips power compared to an old power hungry and loud desktop. It has partner appeal for not making a room look like a neck beard's bachelor pad and just looks nice sitting in any corner.
Oh, you don't understand why you'd want to have network attached storage vs a desktop. 1. it doesn't bog down your desktop resources. 2. it's separate storage accessible by all your devices. 3. it's always powered on, but uses a fraction of the power your desktop does because it's a purpose built appliance and not a general purpose PC.
