Is this a good deal? I need a macbook for dj'n but would also like it to be useful in everyday computing. Yes I know, the specs are overkill, but I want it to last operating system upgrades.

Yup! Not bad but not jump worthy. Odd ball spec for base but if you need the RAM without beefier GPU, then can't go wrong!

HOWEVER, m5 pro 24gb is same price so ...

If you don't need the extra RAM, I would say get the M5 Pro chip rather than this M5. It is the same price and the M5 Pro is significantly better.

The M5 Pro chip is the same price but 24gb RAM. I would say get that instead of this if you don't need the extra RAM 24gb vs 36gb.
The M5 Pro chip will be significantly better.

This $1,799 M5 model has a 10-core CPU with slightly better battery life, 10-core GPU, 32GB unified memory @ 153GB/s bandwidth, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Thunderbolt 4, and weighs 3.4 lbs respectively.

Yes, but you also have 24GB memory selected (M5 Pro from other post) instead of 32GB (M5 from this post).
