seeing my dog ran out in the middle of traffic on her busy road and getting hit by a car that's why we need this

Also a common misconception to personify dogs -- it really helps the dog snap out of their prey-drive-based distraction for their safety. Anyways I've tested my dog's shock collar on the highest level on my neck (higher than I subject him to) and it really isn't a big deal. Just tightened the underlying muscle, didn't hurt at all.

We do lots of training in addition to this, but there are some fundamental behaviors that are nearly impossible to train out, and for those situations these tools are useful. There is never a one size fits all strategy -- definitely recommend working with a trainer and not winging this sort of thing. You can accidentally reinforce bad behaviors or instill fear in useful tools without proper training and introduction of new tools.

This is one of the best investments I have ever made. Works perfectly to keep my dogs on my(unfecnced) property. I have collies and they run off to chase my neighbor's horses every time they aren't wearing these collars and never when they are wearing these collars. There is a subscription, but it is worth it. You can also take it on the road and make fences when you are camping. Very intuitive and easy to use.

Does this battery-powered real-time tracking device involve any technical barriers that justify such a high price tag? Im only okay if the price include a lifetime plan service

We have had one for almost a year and have never regretted buying it. We really like being able to send alerts and whistles to the speaker in the collar as our dog is pretty stubborn and doesn't like to listen. My wife loves to be able to watch where our dog is at while it is playing outside and my wife is working in her office. We also love being able to create another geofence at our dog sitters and it has made it much easier on them as well. Setup and training was pretty straight forward and once we got our boundaries dialed in it doesn't require much work or thought to use. We would highly recommend it.

Just want to say, if you have a smaller yard (0.20 acres) the boundary will *not* work out. We had the boundary set to *outside* our fence line, it kept going off inside our house, scaring our dog. So we turned off the boundary feature. The GPS feature (for boundary purposes) is best for larger areas. Just FYI!

Debating value of this over Petsafe Guardian 2.0 at Costco for $400 with 2 years of subscription included. Some of our friends with Halo have said they don't even put collar on their dog after a couple years once they're trained

We had an older version of this collar (I think 2021?) and had a similar experience. We have about half an acre but also had the issue where he'd be sitting inside and it would beep.I will say that their technical support team was awesome working with us for several weeks attempting to fully calibrate, send software updates etc. to get it to work and ultimately offered a return/refund.I think the product relies on a strong cellular signal, and we have somewhat poor signal near our house so that could be part of the issue. We now use a manual collar (has the beep, vibration and "shock" settings) and I think our dog learned/remembered the training from the Halo onboarding. If the accuracy has improved I'd give this a try, but I don't recall a subscription program back then so this is a disappointment.
