For tmobile, set these 2 settings for the SIM in the web UI and you can use a voice sim (normal data vs hotspot data), a neat trick for those deals when TMO will give you a free voice sim =)
  • Access Point Name (APN): fast.t-mobile.com
  • TTL: 64
You can also change the IMEI in the GLI with an easy command in the AT settings.
Find the AT Command under the Internet SIM settings:
AT+EGMR=1,7,"123456789012345" (replace with your desired IMEI)
The GLI has a X62 Qualcomm modem and the closest real devices would be an iPhone 13/14 or Galaxy S22, A36 or Motorola Edge 2024.

I get over 300mbs on 5G while its sitting in my bedroom (suburbs) .... its a sick unit for road trips. They just released a hotspot brick with 5G, so its basically the Spitz AX in a portable brick form with battery and internal antennas + Wifi 7. Its called the Mudi 7, and I pre-ordered it.
Mudi 7 or unifi 5g Max?

That looks like a great box. Too bad they have 2 different models and not a "global" one.

Not having band n28 in the US version would hurt when traveling to EMEA as it's the rural 5G. Will need to take a closer look if the EU model matches T-Mobile bands here as I would like to keep it as global as possible. Too bad I missed the early bird sale.

Those arent even the same product. The Mudi 7 is a portable unit, with a battery. The Unifi unit is more comparable to the Spitz AX as in stationary or you need a power unit, but the fact you can change TTL and IMEI on the Spitz means the Unifi unit pretty limited when it comes to SIM compatability but works great in a Unifi eco-system at home.

You cant order the EU unit delivered to the US =). Yeah, sucks for not having a global unit, but it is what it is.

I would pick it up from friends there, but I think for me the Inseego MX Pro will do the trick for a while. 380 euro is quite a bit.
Mifi M3000B (T-Mobile) model is as global as needed when unlocked.

Do you happen to know if the modem inside is replaceable, or is it soldered? Just wondering if it would be possible to swap and add the openwrt package/s that support the x75 modem

I was always interested using a T-mobile voice line as a permanent wifi network. Based on your feedback, it seems this router would serve that purpose. But it's also $300.

When I use to root and rom my phones, it was pretty straightforward to bypass hotspot by changing TTL. Couldn't I still do that or use a different method like VPN tunnels or apps? I'm sure this router would be more powerful and flexible, but I have free T-mobile phones like Moto Edge 2024 and Pixel 10 and only need a small network. Am I missing something obvious, like maybe phone hotspot only works for a couple hours or have a limit on connected devices?

iirc openwrt supports usb wan using android phones as modems (tethering) and changing ttl would bypass hotspot restictions. There shouldnt be any time restrictions at all. You might have to root the phone first, not sure

Does these require a data-only sim, or has anyone tried dropping in a phone SIM from Verizon? I've got two dummy accounts (unused phone plans from the recent Buy 4 deal)and this would make a cheap fail-over source for my Ubiquity system.

If it's just fail over just pop the voice sim in default will use hotspot data. You need to find TTL and APN settings for VZ to use normal data if you want more data usage like for a roadtrip

Your idea prompted me to dig out my mothballed Asus RT-AC68U since it supports USB tethering. However, I couldn't get it to recognize my Moto Edge 2024 for USB tethering (works directly connected on laptop). I installed factory, merlin, john's merlin, changed TTL; nothing worked.

Maybe Merlin only supports certain devices. Next would be to try openwrt or ddwrt. But I hate the GUI in those and struggle to get the basics working.

Look at the Flint 2, it's the same intuitive system as the Fitz, and should be under $100 now since Flint 3 and 3e is out. I bought one to use specifically for a 5g modem sled but couldn't get it to bypass hotspot. Check this out https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/e...tethering/

Are you referring to GL-MT6000 Flint 2 [amazon.com]? It doesn't take a SIM nor have a USB input, so I'm not sure if this is the router you are referring to.
