Nice laptop for sure - I had one from Costco and LOVED it. Battery life of the AMD CPU was awesome and would let me do work all day long (I'm an engineer and do a lot of automation work with various hardware devices and lots of different software). I liked it so much that I "upgraded" to the Gram with 32GB RAM and an Intel CPU... which actually feels slower and runs shorter than the AMD here.

Note, mine also had an extra NVMe slot inside, so you can add another drive (I did) with little effort. The back cover comes of nice and clean with screws - easy to upgrade.

Too bad the RAM is not upgradable... it's soldered and there are no slots.

Still, a great machine, especially at this price!

2023 model. Other than that get the AMD version if you want a longer battery life and better graphics.

Thanks for information. I'm about to buy a laptop around $700 but don't know what is good for college right now.

That LG spec sheet linked at the top lists a higher resolution screen and a 2.64 lb weight which is not accurate.

Seriosuly didn't know LG still made laptops. Seems like a decent deal though.

Yeah not sure why it does that, but the table on the second page seems to be right

I've had great luck with these two that I have (the UltraPC listed here, and my current LG Gram). Both have been wonderful. I used to run a computer company where I worked on and fixed computers (and laptops) for customers. Dells were the worst, in my opinion... I had them for my day-job back then, and even their Latitudes were junk (one former company had a D600 I believe, and it blew hard drives about every 6 months because it was poorly designed - Dell made their own motherboards back then). I have had much better luck with HP, and have had MANY for me and my extended family... with great results. Their biggest weakness is hinges... but they have worked for years well. I still have 8 and 10-year-old HP laptops that work today, though I don't use them.

These LGs feel far more solid, and are "MIL STD" tough, whatever that means. That said, they feel solid and super light, yet very fast and powerful. They cost more than the HP but I feel it's worth it. And at this price with 16GB RAM, it's a great deal for a larger-screen laptop (I paid $600 for mine a few years ago... and it's going strong with by brother-in-law).

Depends on what you need for college. Some colleges are finicky about what you get, in which case you can be stuck with dumb requirements that make no sense. I'm an engineer by training and have seen colleges require high power laptops just because they plan to do some CAD. I did CAD on the UltraPC with no issues... sure, I'm not doing monster assemblies in Solidworks, but I can work on subassemblies and such without issue, and can view them without issue as well.

For non-engineering use, this machine would be great. The LGGram I replaced it with is a little more (because it's a little lighter) and has more RAM (32GB) which is why I got it... and it has an Intel CPU (Ultra 7) which has better raw CPU power, but the AMD felt faster overall for anything I threw at it.

In summary, I think these are great laptops, feel sturdy, and at this price a 16GB RAM machine will likely be great for most people... a great deal IMO (after all, I paid more for it and still loved it!)

You have any thoughts on how well a 16gb will hold up over time mostly for light web browsing and occasional light excel work? More concerned about windows/AI rendering these obsolete in a few years.

Where did you get this info? All I can find is : AMD Radeon Graphics

I am on the fence, but kinda reluctant to buy a laptop with zero firmware/driver updates since 2024.
