My brother got this during christmas, and it's been a mess. Constantly freezing, graphics artifacting issues. Reinstalled OS, reinstalled drivers manually and there are just a plethora of issues. Warranty was only a month, and there is no existing support. Shipping also takes 3-4 weeks.

I bought a new one last week... Used it a couple times for gaming... Last night and this morning. With all these reported issues, just seems too fragile. Not used to this. I have it on a cooling pad and a put to replace the liquid metal and more mods to hopefully make it last... They are not like macs which retain value for years... I can sell it for anything. So for .y 60 days, I will put it through the paces.

If reliability was better, it's very nice.. but I really will probably end up with a strix.

doesn't take 3-4 weeks to ship. Arrives before end of the month. Warranty for 2 years via all state. Get it fixed?

How much are the M5 Max laptops compared to this?...

Beware for those purchasing this:
the screen is locked at 240hz which can negatively effect battery life (gets around 5 hours of video playback)
Many people are having issues with their usb ports whenever playing a game, something to do with Optimus. A bios update should eventually fix this.
Good deal but has issues
The 275HX is locked so no undervolting
The USB issue apparently happens in the non-S version as well.

The 16(S) models are the thinner lighter model that has power limited GPU so kind of pointless to put a power limited 5070 TI in one of these IMO! Better off going with a different laptop even if it only has a full powered 5060!

I bought one of these a month ago and it arrived 6 days after I ordered it. So far it's been great, my temps have been good and I have had no issues with my USB C ports and it plays games great. I bought a Llano v12 cooling pad a week after I got it after seeing that they reduce temps by a huge margin. On turbo mode gaming with the cooler my CPU never goes above 70°C and my GPU is always under 60°C
While yes the screen is locked to 240hz I use it for gaming and just stuff at home so I don't need to worry about battery it's always plugged in for use. Even at 115W the GPU is more powerful than a full power RTX 5070M and the extra Vram is nice too. I recommend it

Even at 115W the 5070Ti is more powerful than the full powered 5070M and this has 12GB Vram which makes this more viable for the future than the 8GB Vram models

Refer to my posting for this laptop -
Most of the issues are addressable - including installing Linux.
The intel Ultra on this and every other brand that uses the same CPU that I have explored have the battery and heating issue. I'm able to get my temps lower as stated in my comment link below with battery life between 3-4 hrs on light usage which in today's world is debatable with laptops lasting 10-12 hrs on light usage. On the other hand this laptop CPU is a beast and crunches any task thrown at it.
If you can keep the CPU temps below 95 while extensive then it should be be fine.
In theory screen reducing refresh rate to 60hz should extend battery life significantly, but that does not seem to be the case from what I have noticed when my buddies tried various options available.
There is big thread on optimizations for this laptop version on rediff.
For the price and config the price of this laptop with 2 yr warranty is a bargain.

Update:-
The CPU is not locked, I use throttlestop to undervolt CPU voltage, you have to unlock this option in the bios.

The 12gb VRAM argument only comes into play if you set yourself up to fail like trying to run ultra settings on 1440P on a low/mid grade GPU! If you want to run those ultra settings spend the money on a real gaming laptop not one with gimped GPU power IMO! $$100 more and not gimped https://www.walmart.com/ip/Restor...e_EALw_wcB

I found that disabling the on board graphics stopped all my issues. It's still a defect, but I don't mind always using the 5070ti all the time.
