The important part of that article is: "Nor does it prevent retailers from continuing to sell, import, or market router models approved previously through the FCC's equipment authorization process," the commission adds."
Meaning they can continue to manufacture and sell these as long as they were previously FCC approved for that model. We're seeing this in the drone space as DJI was rushing to get their last batch FCC approved before they clamped down.

Very very slightly better specs on the Costco model, nothing I would expect anyone to ever notice in the real world. Maybe worth the extra $15 for the better return policy, though.

Bought these awhile back. They're awesome. My wifi 7 devices gets really fast download speeds. You can open a separate server for 2.4 ghz for your security cams / tv / smart devices so your main wifi isn't cluttered with devices. You can open a guest wifi. And you can sign into a VPN with your router through the app. There's probably more that I haven't discovered yet.

I've lost all faith in TP-Link Deco. 1st set lasted maybe 3 years, then had issues and could not update firmware. Replaced with another, newer faster better blah blah blah, and it lasted 4 months.

Can this host a vpn service (with ddns) like normal asus routers ? Host, not logging and use vpn service itself.

I've owned this for just under a year... tons of problems where satellites keep going offline. Support took a long time to fix (still waiting). I'd avoid.

Out of curiosity, are you using wired or wireless backhaul among your satellites?

I've been using these for months. They've been rock solid and provide great WiFi performance.

That's usually because they don't support the latest wifi authentication. You can go into Deco/wifi settings/advanced and lower the authentication to WPA or WPA2. I had the same issue with some of my older iot devices.

And what do you expect will happen with the current models when there are no approved "new" models?
You'll still be able to by this model so there is no rush.

Wish I had, but sadly got these from Amazon. I did look at Costco to replace that last system, but all they sell is Deco. Why, Costco, why?!

this or Unifi Router?
I had a very bad experience with the Unifi products, and will share, FWIW. This happened a few years ago, so maybe there have been enough changes to invalidate current options from my experience, but:

My bro set up my parents' house with a Unifi system. He wanted good, full coverage, and used all Unifi parts, the APs were those saucer-looking ones, and then there was the controller module... I forget its name... Cloud something? Anyway - it worked, good area of coverage.

We had weird problems. I could be in the same room as the printer with my laptop, yet be unable to access the printer. Both were on the WiFi network, same subnet and IP addresses were compatible, all that, but it was like the printer didn't exist. However, I could walk a few rooms away, and suddenly the printer would become available. There were loads of other weird, small problems over the course of 2 years with that system.
Eventually I got fed up with it, disconnected it all, and got an Orbi system (I'm not advocating for Orbi, just what I got because at the time it was the good deal), and we have had very few problems since. Enough that I'm watching deals (almost pulled the trigger on this one or the Costco variant, but not there yet), but not enough that I'm constantly frustrated like I was before.

Just my experience with Unifi - I won't go back, because it was THAT bad. I know many people who swear by the brand, but we all make choices that take into account our own experiences.

Just FYI this is nothing but a big grift on foreign manufacturers. It clearly states any model that does not have FCC certification currently or upcoming products can still be sold as long as they go through the new approval process and pay their fees....Also this will be impossible to enforce since we have access to China marketplaces like Aliexpress and the likes.
Those platform companies may not want to mess with US laws if they intend to do business for long term. But, I guess the law doesn't prevent you from bringing in a router from other countries.

Dang that was a good one I missed out on. Upgraded to 1000 mbps, but only the immediate area was getting that my garage was at 100mbps with the xfinity provided xb8. Upgraded with costco deco, whole house at least hits 700 including garage. Killer price at sub $200 for 3 pck
