One of the coolest parts of Japan is the shopping. I would pack light on the way there and just pay the $75 to bring a $30 bagged back.

How many days of clothes can you really pack in a small personal bag that fits under the seat. My cousin who wears a size small would be good but for a reg size person thats like 2 days of clothes. Still a good deal though

I would love to have the life where I could pay a lot of $ for a flight, hotel, food, and then also buy a week and a half worth of clothes while im there but that sounds like it would be costly. Probably makes more sense to just pay for the check in bags both ways and save what I can. Unless Japan has very cheap clothing because then that would be amazing

It's really that cheap. Sweaters and jeans for ~$13 each at uniqlo. Only issue is they don't have a lot of plus sizes or shoes above 10 mens.

Hotel prices were insanely low and half of my meals came out of the convenience stores or quick food in a train station. $7 ramen.

God I want to go back

Buying clothes in Japan doesn't work for everyone. Uniqlo doesn't fit a person that's 6'2". Not everything there is cheap, either.

how much are flights usually from CA to japan?

not sure people on the east coast would chance a connecting flight and layover time w/ diff carrier just to save some coin. versus booking w/ a carrier which would just get to japan from the east coast of usa

Anyone ever flown ZIPAIR? I know they nickel and dime you for everything, so after adding everything you'd get from a normal airline, it's the same price as the others. But I'd rather fly Singapore Airlines at that point. It would be a better experience

Yes! We flew with Zipair on a recent Japan trip from another Slickdeal. If you plan ahead and figure out how many kilograms you'll need to meet their maximum amounts and pack snacks, you should be fine without paying much additional extra. Also, load up offline content on an iPad or tablet and you should be fine for the trip. YMMV depending on your route/travel style.

I'm thinking of a late August trip, having already done Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka before, looking at a northern trip to beat the heat, Morioka, Aomori, Sapporo and Akita, just having Tokyo as a beginning and end point. anybody done this I guess "non traditional" Japan trip?

As I have heard it, Zipair is great as long as you either speak Japanese or nothing goes wrong. If something goes wrong or you don't speak Japanese, you're SOL.

30l bag I usually bring 3 changes of clothes (3 shirts, 3-4 underwear/socks, an extra pair of shorts) and then just get good at washing them in the sink each night.
Doing that on my upcoming Japan trip despite having as many checked bags as I want - I'm not dumb enough to bring checked bags to Japan.
