Woot often has the ZA variant which has a full US warranty for about $100 more.
I own one of these systems about 3 years now, tried it to compare with my Klipsch & Onkyo RZ-50 7.2.4 system, and although the Samsung cannot match it musically, for home theater it's 90% there, with 10% the setup hassle. My full system at time of purchase was over $5K, I haven't hooked it back up in 2 years after owning the earlier Q990C, it's just not worth the hassle with the wires, audio tuning, moving around massive subwoofers, and I used to love that stuff, but just don't have time for that anymore.
I don't know how Samsung did it, but this Q990 system is my recommendation to all my not so much audio enthusiasts friends and family, saving them the setup nightmares of bigger home theater systems, at 80% - 90% accomplishment.

I just feel you are at the price point where you can buy speakers, sub, etc... and a RECIEVER and be happy. NO WAY... am I going to spend so much money on three speakers plus a sub.

Proper implementation is a major factor in performance.
If not followed properly, you could easily have a $10k system and make it not sound very good.
Comparing them is silly, it's apple n oranges comparison.
Science(physics) alone tells you that.

I too had my doubts until I got curious and needed lesser home theater systems to recommend to family and friends, so they weren't overwhelmed with the setup and install, and eventually I had to go do it for them, usually free of cost since I recommended the systems. I listened to many over the years and most were way inferior or just adequate for the casual user, but none I could recommend to someone that even came close to a full and audio enthusiast level (enthusiast, not audiophile level like yourself). However, this Q990 series were so hyped by other audio enthusiasts, and yes, even some audiophiles, I had to listen for myself and I did and agreed with the hype. It needed some dialing in, just like any other system, but no where near a 5.1 and above with separate receiver, etc. needed.
Hey, I'm not saying this would replace a full 9.2.4 system for people like us who wants to dial in everything and have the ear for it, but for the other 99% out there, this will more than do it for them, without breaking their pocket and pulling hair trying to run speaker wires through walls and speaker placements, not even talking the wife acceptance factor.
You and I know what you're saying and I get you, but most of our family and friends couldn't give a flying hoot, and this is built for those who are in between, gives a hoot but don't want to spend thousands and weeks setting up and dialing in a system. Obviously it worked on me, since I've been using it over my full system a couple years now, till I can find time re running those wires and fiddling with Dirac so I can get back those extra 10%-20%. In the meantime I have other things to accomplish and will get to it soon, since retirement is closer than I was planning.
