I can't speak for these shoes but having done the hike years ago light to to medium trail running shoes are IMHO sufficient and recommended over heavier duty hiking boots and these shoes fit the bill.

Serious question . I could never find boots for my wide feet . I wear sketchers because they offer xxwide and those will still almost go over the side
