Also, we should expect the argument that a new console needs to be priced for the mass consumer base won't hold anymore -- because the new generations aren't so distinct and they are blended all together because games release on all previous consoles. This means Sony can go ahead and release PS6 at $1000+ if they wanted, because games will still come out on PS5. This is why Sony doesn't have a problem releasing PS6 on time in 2027. The market can adopt and transition to it whenever they have the money to, while they can still play most new titles.

The days of $100 gamecubes or $200 ps2 slims after time past are over.
Edit: rather than just be vague, here's some specific examples to be helpful: Of course there's your phone with any controller, but also the Retroid Pocket 6 and Ayn Odin Portal (currently on sale! Limited time) will cost the same $250 with lots off offline gaming potential, meanwhile the Mangmi Max or Air X will save money and offer a better experience (and again, lots of potential to play games without streaming).
FYI: Walmart also offered cheapest replacement coverage I've found yet, AND longest... 4 years via Allstate for $45 total!
Mainly got it because I was given a base PS5, (first hits free!), and am now hooked on building a sim racing rig using VR2, and my wheel/pedals/shifter.
But to anyone having a hard time justifying pulling the trigger, it's honestly so close to a wash in the end, when you consider how many hours you'll put on it.
Seeing price INCREASES this late in a product cycle does not bode well for the next generation. Nobody is going to be able to afford a PS6.

Secured the best way to play GTA 6 for at least a year till the PC version comes out.
