The real deals here are the PlayStation Fortnite bundles which are $100 less than other pricing and $200 less than they'll be on the 2nd. Wanted to make the thread so anyone on the fence about purchasing had time to before the price increases next week.

This will kill the industry. No one will be able to afford these prices to game.

sigh. so not worth at this price. this is what happens when there is no competition. If there was, the price increase wouldn't be so drastic. Hope they are not sticky for ps6.

Nope. I will hold off. I still have a small collection of PS4 games left to play. Many people aren't going to pay $700 for disc console. I know it's not entirely their fault for having to increase price, but Sony has failed at producing 1st party exclusives for this generation that makes this thing worth the high price. That's the bigger issue than the price.

I'm in the camp that competition is good for the consumer on some level, but at some point other forces can break that. Look at Xbox who raised their console prices when they keep getting -30% hardware drops quarter after quarter. They got outsold by some random NEX Playground console during Black Friday 2025.
.
Also, we should expect the argument that a new console needs to be priced for the mass consumer base won't hold anymore -- because the new generations aren't so distinct and they are blended all together because games release on all previous consoles. This means Sony can go ahead and release PS6 at $1000+ if they wanted, because games will still come out on PS5. This is why Sony doesn't have a problem releasing PS6 on time in 2027. The market can adopt and transition to it whenever they have the money to, while they can still play most new titles.

Unfortunately, these prices will never return it's like everything else once they go up and we get conditioned to paying for it, it sticks forever until a collapse happens.

Its curtains everyone prices will never return these shortages will happen because the lifespan of these components will fail more requiring more supply. Also expect more geopolitical issues affecting the economy in the upcoming future to keep things elevated in msrp.

The days of $100 gamecubes or $200 ps2 slims after time past are over.

Shoot. I was looking to a sale for the Portal.
Good news: there's tons of better handhelds (OLED, longer battery, more ergonomic or more pocketable, better WiFi, Bluetooth), for equal or less cost.

Edit: rather than just be vague, here's some specific examples to be helpful: Of course there's your phone with any controller, but also the Retroid Pocket 6 and Ayn Odin Portal (currently on sale! Limited time) will cost the same $250 with lots off offline gaming potential, meanwhile the Mangmi Max or Air X will save money and offer a better experience (and again, lots of potential to play games without streaming).

Then don't buy it. I refused to buy a switch 2 because of the prices. It wasn't until they dropped the bundle price to $450 and got a PayPal deal for $100 cash back, making it $350 that I got one. Even now I'm kind of regretting doing that as Nintendo is still getting the money.

Was able to snag a Pro at nearest Walmart.

FYI: Walmart also offered cheapest replacement coverage I've found yet, AND longest... 4 years via Allstate for $45 total!

Mainly got it because I was given a base PS5, (first hits free!), and am now hooked on building a sim racing rig using VR2, and my wheel/pedals/shifter.

But to anyone having a hard time justifying pulling the trigger, it's honestly so close to a wash in the end, when you consider how many hours you'll put on it.

this is crazy, considering how i purchased and returned that PS5 from that target deal during the holiday season. forgot the exact price but i think it was like ~370$ maybe it has to do with the current NVME prices.

Genuinely surprised this didn't happen sooner, I guess Sony had the parts stock to hold off longer than MS did.

Seeing price INCREASES this late in a product cycle does not bode well for the next generation. Nobody is going to be able to afford a PS6.

I'm so glad I traded in my OG PS5 for $350 in store credit towards the Pro when it was $700 at GameStop.
Secured the best way to play GTA 6 for at least a year till the PC version comes out.
