Audio Products International (API) was a prominent Canadian speaker manufacturer (established in 1973) that developed and manufactured Mirage, Energy, and Athena Technologies speakers. The company was known for its in-house design and testing facilities and frequently collaborated with Canada's National Research Council in studies to determine measurable qualities listeners attributed to good sounding speakers. API's anechoic chamber was legendary.

API was acquired by the Klipsch Group in 2006 and Mirage and Athena Technologies were soon eliminated. (Klipsch Group also acquired Jamo at this time.) Energy and Jamo were acquired by Rayleigh Labs ( established in 2017 in Shenzhen, China) in late 2024.

I can't believe you can still find a deal on these. I thought the last run from Fry's a decade ago was it.
These have been the best speakers I've owned, and they really are good any everything. All music types, HT works great, dedicated stereo with or without a sub, records, lossless hifi, etc.
The best thing about this speaker line is the great detail you get but without fatigue. They have a warmer sound that never gets tiring, and use their full range to represent detail well.
I have much more expensive setups since my original purchase, but I still use the RC-70s in my nicer stereo system, also paired with Marantz.

This deal seems way too good, dunno, something seems odd, like where did they come from ?
Same, back when I got mine at Fry's they were "the last stock available". Did someone find a warehouse full of them or something? Or are these some overseas knockoffs? haha.

I bet they're legit, it'll be interesting to see pictures of what people get! I'd love to see them, I still have mine setup as my music setup in the living room.

posting some photos. these appear, to the best of my abilities, to be old stock. someone with better abilities as far as deriving dates from serial codes may be able to confirm. I could not find any references to dates in the bundled manuals / warranty cards. However, I can confirm there is no reference to klipsch anywhere, as there is in the newer literature provided on the energy website.
also confirming serial codes on product match the serials on the packaging, as suggested by the energy website to confirm legit product. (https://www.energy-speakers.com/u...r-warning/)
i do not appear to have permissions to post images here, so i will have to post a link to an image gallery: https://postimg.cc/gallery/RzqQhyr
if link doesnt work or expires. serial on plate for RC-70B-1 is 25460859. Product UPC code is 629303110119. EAN code is 0629303110119. Serial on packaging is 1101125460577

Ignore the dust lol

I see your serial starts with 254, mine starts with 143. So maybe yours are a newer build? I don't remember when I got mine in relation to the rush on them, maybe I was earlier and got an older set if the numbers are sequential? Or the serial means nothing about timing lol

I'm somewhat confident that the serial number starts with YYWW, so 2546 means they were made in Nov of last year.

Clark Kent has a set from Oct 2014.

I'd almost agree but I found this set on ebay with a serial that starts with 4041, which doesn't quite align: https://www.ebay.com/itm/397467811223

Ah that's not a bad theory, so they did make them again.

March 11, 2015. I still have the pickup email from Fry's haha. It doesn't have the price though so I don't know what I paid for them, I was trying to find that the other day.

It's possible there are two different serial number systems, one pre klipsch before 2006, and one after. Afterwards does seem to match the YYMM system. Here's another pic from a reviewer on Amazon that purchased in 02/2021 and the serial appears to be 1921. https://m.media-amazon.com/images...rVmT+L.jpg
I think any more confirmation would have to come from other users here who have older sets and can compare. Visually they look identical, down to the serial plates.
I could try opening up a speaker and taking a look inside, though I may need guidance on what to look for.

I can't speak on this deal specifically, but I've had this brand of speakers for over 20 years. They sound great, and I've never had an issue with them.

I would say just enjoy them. When you get them unboxed, I'd love to see some pictures of the front and the cones (without the grill) to see how they look.

They don't sound similar and IF they were an improvement would be personal choice after listening side by side.Never listened to them side by side but generally speaking it's a side move.Depending on what needs improvement, other than center which sounds like you corrected.I would suggest checking the implementation of speakers especially subs.Room is a major factor in performance also. You might want to see what you can do there. The Sony kinda handcuffs you with parallel sub outs and not very versatile room correction imo.
Do you really think that magnat and rc70 are comparable? If that's the case, the 2 magnat 2002 towers deal for $300 that's still available is the better buy, espectially if you don't need all 5 speakers.
