People are always talking about fakes of the duracell and energizer versions of these coin batteries on Amazon, but Amazon wouldn't have fakes of their own product right?

These have the bitter coating on them which can be removed by lightly sanding it off, or wiping it off with rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol.

It says that they are not coated at least three times on that page. What makes you think they have a bitter coating?

What is the purpose of removing this safety feature?

It has been reported that it can cause connection issues in certain devices like AirTags.

I guess I should cancel my Energizer deal order for these and get the Amazon basics due to the coating on the Energizer's.

My nissan keyfobs would act wonky with these. Switched to energizer and no more issues.

According to Energizer customer service, their batteries do have a bitter coating and Color Alert technology applied to the negative (back) side to help prevent accidental ingestion. However, several customers report that unlike Duracell's coating which can interfere with device contacts, Energizer's coating placement doesn't cause connection issues.

The coating is specifically designed not to interfere with device performance - it's applied only to the back (negative) side and formulated to maintain compatibility with devices like AirTags, key fobs, and other electronics.
