I'm in no way a fire fighter or even fire fighter adjacent, but I imagine they have different use cases. If you have an electrical fire or something inside a wall, I don't think a fire blanket will help much.

Typical kitchen grease fire, absolutely go with the fire blanket.

Fwiw, I have both in my house.

I keep one in my truck.... I have used 2 in my lifetime so far.... engine car fire and a retail store electrical fire.... both were a big factor in saving property.....

Unless you use it you probably won't need to refill it, just turn it upside down 1x/year and tap it on the bottom to keep the contents mixed.

Preface my comment: we have both

We unfortunately had a large electrical surge in our house a month ago. Surge suppression on our box failed. We lost half our major appliances and had a significant amount of smoke from those and electronics getting fried. Fire Dept came and it was scary situation for our family. I can assure you, esp when you're in a situation where there's smoke and you can not pinpoint the origin (could have sparked a fire behind the wall, etc), you'll likely lean on a fire extinguisher vs a fire blanket.

Having said that, the fire dept complimented me for having an extinguisher and said it's alarming how few houses have them/extinguishers can prevent many serious fires they see.

There is a use case for both. Don't be less prepared for the less desirable situation

Call your local fire station. If the don't do it, ask them if they know anyone that does locally.

Called First Alert (Residio) about my 15 year old with same specs. Even though the gauge is centered on the green, they still recommend replacing it as they can rust and not operate properly. Also, they have only 12-yr warranty. I asked about turning it upside down and tapping it, and they do not recommend it. Decisions, decisions.

My father would always mention to me that local fire departments will recharge them for free. I don't know if that's still a case though.
