What the hell would make you think the JBL PartyBox is used for parties?
But seriously speaking, I'm guessing it's mostly used for parties in outdoor venues such as pool parties, beaches, etc. As opposed to a party in an apartment.
Is the main difference their size and loudness?

Then I went with a group on a parade. Either the number of bluetooth devices around or the broadcasting signals overwhelmed the connection, and so audio cut out a ton. Also it just wasn't loud enough.
Those were the first two times I ran into one, all in the past month.
