Only If you actually wire it into your electrical system, would have to add a change over switch/disconnect etc

How could one use it for a small 400sqft ADU with out wiring in?

FYI, for home backup, the F3800 Plus model has generator bypass support. Very useful if you want to use bypass mode for whole-home backup with a gas generator. My backup plan is to run the generator during the day and then use the F3800 at night. In addition, the F3800 Plus can be charged via a 240v generator outlet for much faster charging times (1.5-2 hours) and can also take up to 3,200W of solar input. I know it's a bit more $$$, but if you're looking into home backup options, its good to be aware of the differences.

Rules for use vary wildly by municipality. For example, where I live, permits are not required for the device itself if the power station is portable. The connections to the house do (even if off grid), and any solar panels that are not portable (like the fold up kind) also require permits, regardless of size or grid connectability. Big Govt got to get their cut!
