Anyone looking for a small pan, Walmart has the 8" version for $14.39 [walmart.com]. I've been waiting to find this size for making personal pan pizzas.

If you're a GenXer looking to recreate that old Pizza Hut classic from your youth, check this out. [tiktok.com] I scale the recipe back about 20% and make it in an 11.25" Lodge.

textbook definition of a BIFL item (buy it for life)

we are still using the set we bought 25 yrs ago. though i will say, we use the 10" way way more than the 12", but it's still great to have both. the larger pan really is massive though, and for what we use it for it would have been better to get the one with the 2 short handles and not this one
The Lodge Blacklock style?

I love my Lodge skillet as well. I would recommend considering https://www.lodgecastiron.com/col...dutch-oven instead if you want a deeper pot with a 10" skillet as the lid. There is a coupon now for $10 off to cover the shipping costs or you can wait for a better discount.
Looks like for that one, you can use the lid on its own and even invert it for sourdough bread baking.

Don't forget to actually clean your pan with dish soap and water. The old "Knowledge" about not using soap is outdated with modern dish "soaps". The black crude on your pan is not seasoning; It is burned food and non-polymerized oil. Actually seasoning does not come off with basic dish soap.

This is horrible advice.

Nope. It's entirely accurate with today's dish soap. Dish soap nowadays is actually a detergent and not true soap, and it is not harsh enough to strip true seasoning, which is a layer of polymerized oil. You've been mislead by a common misconception that is based on outdated knowledge caused by a change in what modern "soaps" consist of. But hey, if you want to continue cooking on a layer of burnt carbon particles mixed with unpolymerized old oil, that's no skin off my back. After cleaning, drying, and gently oiling the pan, if wiping it with a paper towel comes away with anything but the color of the oil you just applied, then your pan isn't actually clean. This fact should be common sense.

No one is cooking on unpolymerized oil. By definition of unpolymerized, that wipes off by dry wiping.
If dry wiping and scrapping isn't enough, use water without soap, and dry it off by heating. You don't want soap on cast iron, it will just let the water penetrate easier and isn't necessary.

Nope. As I said, this is inaccurate with today's dish soap. And the idea that old dirty oil can be simply wiped away defies logic. The oil question requires a detergent to remove it fully by bonding it to the water molecules. Pour oil on a surface and simply wipe it with a wet cloth. There is still oil. You'd use a cleaning spray to take care of that.

"Unpolymerized oil in food contexts generally refers to liquid or semi-liquid fats that have not undergone the chemical cross-linking process (polymerization) required to form a solid, hard film.
When unpolymerized oil is left on cookware or stored improperly, it can oxidize and become rancid, leading to a sticky, glue-like buildup rather than the desired non-stick seasoning."

If your pan is slick and not sticky, and you've wiped way all the food and black gunk with a paper towel. Be happy! You don't Also need water, soap, detergent and cooking spray. Lol!!!

And there ya go. Illustrating the facts I'm sharing. And no, oil doesn't simply wipe away. We all know this and it's why we use detergent sprays for every application when removing an oil. FYI Lodge themselves indicate to use some soap when cleaning your cast iron pan. And other manufacturers as well. I understand that I'm not going to change your mind and that's not a goal of mine here. I'm sharing this information so others can avoid being misled by the common misconception that continues to be perpetuated. Anyways, have a great day!

I put oil down on a pan all the time, and wipe it away. Experiment. Put a tea spoon of oil on a pan. Try wiping it up with a paper towel. Did it get on the paper towel? Then you wiped it off.

Haha I appreciate you turning to humor about this. And I assure you that I'm not worth getting this upset over. Have a perhaps more happy and pleasant day, and I welcome you to have the last word. Hopefully it's joke filled again! And please be a little more creative than "you're the joke". And clean your pan! Haha

Edit: Looks like some of their more...unpleasant comments got removed.
