When you guys need 20 or more bags do you do the store pickup option? I feel like I'd be a a hole if I did that. Lmk if it's normal

I do not. My big box stores have an outdoor loading zone. I usually put one bag in the cart. Tell them the quantity I want at checkout and go fill up my car direct from the pallet outside.

At our store, if you do a large pickup order (like this) you go to the pickup counter and they send you around to the side of the store where all the pallets are and an associate helps/watches you load your order into your truck. They don't actually pull them aside for you ahead of time and bring them to the front. Its more of a reservation system for the product, not a pick up.

Totally fine. At mine they have an entire mulch loading zone. If you buy in store they don't want you hauling 30 bags up to the register, and if you do online they aren't going to pull them. Either way you purchase them, you just get a loading slip and drive over to the loading zone, show the associate and then load them (or they may help you especially if they are busy and there is a line).

As an aside, I've always done bulk delivery from local mulch producers (there is one only 2 miles from my house) but every place around me now charges ~$75 for delivery because of diesel prices, so these bags are now the best priced option.

I buy online. As others mentioned, they then have me go around to the back. No one has set them aside by then, they just look at how many you bought, pull up a pallet and start loading the right number of bags.

I seriously just wrote the exact same thing without seeing your post. Smilie

No, I call my local landscape supply store for a much better deal if I need that much. I can get my truck bed filled to overflowing with much higher quality mulch there for about $25-30. Yes, bags are slightly more convenient, but I can also back my truck up to the different places I need mulch.

I don't have a pickup or I'd totally do that

Why pay for mulch when you can get it for free? Sure, you have to take however much they drop, but if you need a large amount of mulch, it's a slicker deal than paying for this dyed stuff. Tree services have to pay to dump their wood chips, so this is a cheaper option for them and a win for you!

I got a drop, and while it was a LOT, I did get rid of it by sharing the excess with neighbors.

Chipdrop is hit or miss, depending on the type of sources it comes from.
Our area it comes from utility veg management, which means primarily live oak and pine, its full of leaves, twigs, sap, and not good quality stuff. They also abuse the system (again, just talking about our area) and they will continue dumping loads until there is no more room regardless of what you say. They will show up when you arent home and drop 20-30 yards of the stuff.

Fair enough! These used to be 3 cubic foot bags for this price, but 'shrinkflation' got to them and they went down to 2 cubic foot bags so they could keep the same 5 for $10 deal.
