Is the qd-oled monitors any good or why are the prices dropping?

my guess is that people aren't making new builds because of the ram shortage (cascading to several components) and thus not as many monitor upgrades and they need to get rid of gaming monitor stock that has been in the pipeline for a while. i might be totally wrong that's just my initial guess.

The oled refresh notification is annoying. The blue LED power indicator cannot be disabled. It flashes when in standby mode and is disruptive at night. The screen looks great though.

Tell me more about the OLED refresh. Is it a mandatory popup every X minutes (apparently even when gaming)? Is it to prevent burn-in?

Mandatory popup every 4 hours or you can opt for a 12 hour schedule, but you can't post-pone when it's time. Not entirely sure if it's doing refreshes while the monitor sleeps or if just "dumbly" counts "on" time, forcing refreshes mid-session -- this was an issue with MSI OLEDs, before MSI took a hint and released a firmware update.

Personally returning mine. I used the 4 hour pop up option. Noticed the popup would pop up when the monitor was in sleep mode. And there's no timeout for the pop up. And it doesn't move around the screen to minimize burn-in.

You can disable it. I am using this monitor for 6mos and I love it.

Yes, the pop-up will show up on the bottom center of the screen in the middle of whatever you are doing. You can choose to either bypass or perform the refresh. The refresh takes several minutes. If you choose to bypass, it comes back later but I didn't personally keep track when it returns. I believe the refresh is to keep the panel from burn ins.

Is this the blue LED or the refresh?
