On the home page of TA they show (for premier) $53.99 (which is 40% off $89.99) without a coupon.
So...
Is it 40% off regular price or off discount price? What's the final price?

The "Discount" you're seeing on their home page is their price vs TurboTax. You'll get a 40% off listed price through this promo.

I filed at the wrong time. I was in between the 2 sales. Feb was the cheapest rates. March was full price.

Terrible timing, I finally gave in and filed with TA last night at 20% off Federal but full price state. Great deal for everyone else holding out!

No, vs TT is 58% off. I look at the price, above TT comparison. Can't attach screenshot here, SD is broken.
$53.99 $89.99
-58% vs TurboTax Federal

So what's the final price?

I also paid full price for state. I wonder how OP found out about this offer.

Some (many? all?) states have free tax filing websites. Colorado:
https://www.colorado.gov/revenueonline/_/

Also, free filing IRS partners (with conditions):

Just use freetaxusa. Stupid name, but the software works well and the price is great.

I filed on Saturday using 30 percent off federal and state(s). I also paid with Amex and will get 30% back with their offer. This deal would have been great, they scared me when they said to file by March 31st before their prices go up. Liars.

*Final Price, including added sales taxes, is determined at time of filing and subject to change.

When I started in Feb it was $22.99 Fed & 29.99 State. Now when I logged its showing $31.79 Fed & $35.99 State for Deluxe. Looks like you cant lock in the rates any as you could in the past.

TaxAct has been absolutely hounding everyone with ads, dont support them or TurboTax. File for free with CashApp (no income limits like with freetaxact, just make sure it's a single state return)

TaxAct pricing is so infuriating. I couldn't even find a deal around black friday this year.

Longtime TaxAct user, finally switched away this year. TaxAct is so supremely overpriced compared to the other viable alternatives out there and I'm done with the games trying to time it each year with codes and sales and all the nonsense.

Went with Freetaxusa, way cheaper, just as robust - kicking myself for not changing many years ago.

Yeah... It happens. I made the same mistake and didnt bother doing any research until like 3 years ago. I used turbotax for like 15 years not thinking about it. People don't even realize turbotax and others take an additional ~$200 or so out of state return as well. So you're paying $40-60 for the software and then another $25 or so to file State if you e-file, and lose another ~$200 out of state as well. Literally paying the same as if you hired a pro to do it. Ripoff city. Don't support that crap.

I have slightly more complex tax returns so I cant just use any of the basic free tax software/sites.

Freetaxusa is a good one for complex tax returns. Federal is free and state is $16. I have found Credit Karma is good as well(Free Federal and State is $15).

I found Cashapp taxes last year and this is by far the best. Supports complex tax returns, everything free e-file, and also includes free audit defense as well. Most other sites/softwares charge $15-25 for audit defense. Literally completely free. This is my new goto. Cashapp taxes best if you care about value.
