These old AA battery Apple input devices seem to drain the batteries very fast on Apple Silicon Macs for me.

Not Apple silicon specific. It has been that way even with Intel Macs. Had to replace with Ni-MH rechargeable every other week..

Even if it's new, it's been sitting on a shelf for a LONG time. I wouldn't get an apple keyboard without Touch ID anyway, that's so convenient.
