Do I need to pay rent or buy 128gb? The choice is clear.

Not the best deal, but I figured I'd go ahead and upgrade to 64GB since who knows when these prices will come down.
Worst case the drop in a few months and I'm out like $50-$100.

be careful if you are upgrading to 4 sticks of ram both Intel and AMD CPU's have a crappy memory controller and when you go from 2 sticks of RAM to 4 your ram will downgrade speed quite a bit.

Yup. Maybe we will have a reversal soon. Most data centers aren't even built out and the parts are just sitting in boxes.

This is not true. 4 sticks means fully populated dual-channel (2 sticks per channel), which is the same bandwidth as 2 sticks in dual-channel. What you really want to avoid is 3 or 1 stick because that leaves one dual channel hanging.

Partly because people stopped buying. Don't start now and it will continue to drop.

Also, you could not have XMP enabled or else you will start to have issues with displays and stuff

Yes, you should likely turn XMP/EXPO off (or disable it) if you are running 4 sticks of DDR5, as it often causes system instability, failure to boot, or crashes. DDR5 memory controllers struggle to maintain high speeds with four modules, so using XMP likely makes the system unstable.
YouTube +2
Steps to Manage 4 Sticks of DDR5:
  • Disable XMP/EXPO: Start by running your RAM at default speeds (likely 4800MHz or lower) to ensure system stability.
  • Update BIOS: Ensure your motherboard BIOS is updated to the latest version, which often improves 4-stick stability.
  • Manual Tuning: Instead of full XMP, try manually setting a lower, stable frequency (e.g., 5200MHz or 5600MHz) rather than the rated 6000MHz+.
  • Check QVL: Verify on your motherboard's website (Qualified Vendor List) if your specific RAM model is supported when all four slots are filled.
    Reddit +4
Running 4 sticks of DDR5 is generally not recommended if your goal is high-speed overclocking; 2 sticks are much easier to stabilize.

Yes it is true! The RAM speed drops to around 4 GHz if you have all 4 bays full.
