I thought Ego was the ticket but with more dead batteries in my garage than good ones and very little support from them, I can't recommend the brand.

Got the deal last week at Lowe's. Came with extra 5 ah battery, which I returned for $230 back, then bought 715 cfm blower which comes with 5 ah battery and charger and an extra 2.5 ah battery for 330, then returned that battery for 105 back. You end up with the same deal, but with the blower and an extra charger for 7 dollars more.
I was waiting to see this on Slickdeals to prove it's still worthwhile. Clearly it's just bots these days.

I've had my EGO systems now for about 9 years. All my original batteries still with although went diminished capabilities, the nature of batteries. But they still hold a charge and allow me to use them. Make sure that you do a reset on your batteries because at one point in time I thought two of mine were dead and once I reset the battery it worked just fine. And that was about 3 years ago. Good luck.

Disagree. Purchased an off brand 5ah for less than $50. Heavy use after a year and it outperforms my Ego 2.5 . Enjoy
Can you link to the aftermarket battery? Or send me a dm with link. TY!

Also disagree. If properly handled Ego batteries last a long time. My mower/battery is probably more than a decade old and the battery & mower is still working well. I did have an issue with a 2.5 and Ego CS asked me a few questions and mailed me a new one within a week.

Cart shows $0 for extra battery. How were you able to return this and get $230 back? Was it on phone or in store?
You should place the order using the Lowe's app on your phone, and the order will show the promotional value of ~$218 for the extra battery. I picked up my order last week and directly returned the extra battery in-store, no hassle at all. I learned this trick from here: https://slickdeals.net/f/18347842-ego-power-21-56v-self-propelled-lawn-mower-w-7-5ah-5ah-battery-charger-547-free-store-pickup?p=177282427#post177282427

ive had an ego mower for 4 years. personally id rather use my sunjoe as i think it works better, gives a better cut and operates at peek rpm all the time - instead of the ego will only kick its rpm into higher mode when it encounters heavier grass which is not great if you want the best cut possible. given the prices of these ego mowers these days, there are plenty of battery options out there for much cheaper and likely are better as a 'basic mower' than this brand. ego as a brand thinks they are soo 'all dat' but honestly the value for the price is no longer there.

They all get more powerful. Pretty sure 6 series is 6 ft-lbs, 7 is 7 ft-lbs 8, is 8-ftlbs and 10 is 10 ft-lbs.
Thanks for the reply, I wonder if blade speed increases also with the more powerful motors.

Did you order on computer or on phone?
Pretty sure it was phone. Most cash back sites I've seen will your cancel/chargeback rewards if something's returned anyway.

The aftermarket batteries are fine. 2+ years now and no issues, and it was like 1/3 the price. It's much more convenient to have 3+ more batteries ready to go, than one "genuine" EGO battery. I'm sure they will eventually degrade, but so do EGOs. When EGO wants $150 for 1x 2.5ah...and I can get 2x 5ah knockoffs for $130? Easy choice. Half the price, twice the capacity. EGO is doing the same thing with their batteries that HP does with their printer ink. Otherwise I love their tools.
I agree that their batteries are ridiculously overpriced alone. But there are combo deals that make it worth it. I wouldn't get a battery that is less than 5ah imo. Most the tools will burn out the small batteries fast. But you have to understand that they have to warranty their batteries, which is where the extra cost comes. I doubt you'll have much of a warranty on the off brand batteries. In addition, there are several side by side comparisons between the batteries. The off brand batteries never last as long as the oem when running the tool.

Any thoughts on this vs the potentially 100 or more off Costco polydeck 21 inch self propelled greenworks mower? Costco has the amazing Costco guarantee/return going for it but I know ego may be better in general (but not an amazing return like Costco if your battery dies after 5 years they will let you return the whole mower).

Any idea if this 7.5 ah will have a longer runtime mulching vs greenworks 4+2 ah 80v? They're both multi blade as well

Greenworks look and act like old style mowers. I mean their configuration is old style. Ego has more convenient configuration. One example, it's very easy to fold the ego mowers. The controls on it is more convenient to access. However, the Greenworks has more power than Ego. That means it can cut through tall or thick grass much easier than the Ego. From personal use of the Ego, I've never had it bog down on me but I never let the grass go too tall. Plus, I can just set the height higher if needed. One thing I've experienced is the self propel stop working and that's because debri covers the fan underneath. So it cuts off due to safety. I just have to blow air to clear it. I don't deny Costco's stellar return policy. If cost is a factor, you may want to look at used ones. At least in my area, there are always people selling theirs because they are moving into an apartment or something. Test it out and you've got a great machine. Battery is usually the item that you want to buy new or get lucky on a good quality.

Perhaps this is a dumb question but am I correct in assuming this is "backwards compatible" with all previous Ego batteries? I have the original Ego 20-inch push mower (LM2000) and the 4Ah battery it came with is still going pretty strong.
While the old one is still working fine enough I do need to replace wheels and all of my blades are beat up bad; good excuse to upgrade to self-propelled and the slightly greater cutting width.
Don't really need the extra battery -- I'm old and it's hot as heck here in the summer so I usually do my yard in two separate sections that I can do currently with one charge of the 4Ah battery each. If I can return the extra battery with Lowes for $218 this may be too good to pass up.

also friendly reminder if you have discover cashback bonus you can redeem for lowes and ace e-giftcards with what they call "10% added value" -- e.g. $200 gift card for $180.

That's really 11.111% added value. I'm probably the only person in the world mildly annoyed by this.

Any thoughts on this vs waiting for a sale on Milwaukee mower (when on sale)? Already on Milwaukee for blower and tools. Thanks in advance!

I'm 70, and have been mowing my home's yards since I was 10. Seems I'm tough on them, they last only ten years, even with being maintained well. Got a similar deal from Lowe's back in 2021. Mower, including the battery, has been flawless. This is a good mower/battery combo at a great price!
