Any recommendations for playing volleyball at the beach for hours?
If it's American chemical sunscreen, I think the conventional wisdom of reapply every two hours still applies.
I play club sports and routinely participate in weekend tournaments where I'll be out in the sun for several hours both days. I'm pale, so I struggled with reapplying and getting burns using standard chemical sunscreens. One day, I looked at the actual instructions on the bottle. Since I've started applying as soon as I wake up and letting it dry while I get stuff together (and before I get dressed), I can go an entire day with this exact sunscreen while only reapplying to high-contact areas like face and jersey neckline. I play beach ultimate frisbee tournaments and use the same methodology; I'll get minor burns because a particularly intense dive scraped off the sunscreen (and some skin), but the caked layer of sand sticking to my sweat seems to help.
If you apply right before activity (or worse, after you start sweating), no chemical sunscreen is going to last very long.
