Perfect for homme, office, emulation and light PC gaming.
Having x2 m.2 ports means that you could sacrifice one to add an m.2 adapter and use an eGPU for a massively better gaming performance.
Soldered RAM is the only bummer, BUT 16gb is plenty and I think that is the reason that these are so cheap, which is a win.

This Ryzen 5 6600H mini PC stands out as a strong budget box for home office work, emulation, light gaming, Proxmox, and media use, with performance well above N100 minis and enough muscle for multiple VMs or a desktop replacement. The dual M.2 layout and 16GB soldered DDR5 are the big draws, and the quad channel memory layout is even seen as a performance boost. Main cautions are the non upgradeable RAM, possible HDMI limits for 4K 120Hz use, and repeated reports of a dirty Windows image that should be wiped and reinstalled. A capable low cost pick if the fixed memory and setup hassle are acceptable.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. The included Windows 11 image has been reported with malware detections and other bundled junk, so the safest approach is to wipe the NVMe and install a fresh copy from Microsoft or Linux. A clean reinstall has also been used successfully to restore a working system.
Yes, it is powerful enough for Proxmox and multiple VMs or LXCs, and it is much stronger than an N100 mini PC. The main limits are the soldered 16GB RAM and iGPU passthrough/transcoding quirks, while Realtek NICs can still work with OPNsense, especially if run in a VM.
Yes, the RAM is permanently soldered on this AM02, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced later. The upside is that the board is already laid out in quad-channel with 4x 4GB chips, and 16GB is considered enough for normal use and many Proxmox/self-hosting setups.
The listing claims HDMI 2.1, but the reported output limit is 4K60 over HDMI. For higher refresh targets like 4K120, the safer expectation is to use DisplayPort if the display and cable support it.
Yes if you need more performance: this Ryzen 5 6600H model is positioned as much better than the common 8GB N100 mini PCs and is better suited to heavier multi-VM or desktop-replacement use. An N100 is still the better fit for low-power always-on tasks like Home Assistant.

To generalize, the biggest issue with this device and self hosting would be the iGPU. You will have trouble passing through an iGPU to a VM either way. But if you do run PleX on the Proxmox host, or within a LXC container, Intel is better for transcoding video. Yes, the AMD iGPUs are much more powerful. But the Intel iGPUs are better supported for transcoding video.
The second biggest issue is the soldiered RAM. 16 GiB is plenty for a ton of things. But odds are you could fit even more services on the system if you added more RAM. That fact that its soldiered means that if you want more RAM in the future, you buy a new machine. But if 16 GiB is plenty for your needs, and it may be, then this isn't an issue at all.
