This Ryzen 5 6600H mini PC stands out as a strong budget box for home office work, emulation, light gaming, Proxmox, and media use, with performance well above N100 minis and enough muscle for multiple VMs or a desktop replacement. The dual M.2 layout and 16GB soldered DDR5 are the big draws, and the quad channel memory layout is even seen as a performance boost. Main cautions are the non upgradeable RAM, possible HDMI limits for 4K 120Hz use, and repeated reports of a dirty Windows image that should be wiped and reinstalled. A capable low cost pick if the fixed memory and setup hassle are acceptable.

Stop comparing Mini PC with a Raspberry Pi. Stop comparing a Ryzen 5 or 7 to an Intel N100.

Different designs for different purposes. Totally different power requirements when idle and at max.
Want to play "recently" newer 3D FPS games and needing native 3D acceleration with highest possible performance (and power draw): Get a Ryzen
Want to play classic emulation games with curated libraries and emulation front ends using standard 2D video through emulation stack: consider Raspberry Pi
Want to have a home assistant that sits doing nothing 99.99% of the time but needs 24/7 connectivity with low power draw, consider a N100 level
Want to tinker with very basic microcontroller stuff on the super cheap: Consider ESP32's for under $10.

Different tasks, different power, different uses. Don't snipe at others or mislead, where use cases are different than yours.

Be aware that actually this is better than the AM02 version sold just a few months ago. This has 4x 4GB chips soldered in QUAD-channel mode. The previous units had 2x SODIMM sockets filled with a single 16GB chip (natively dual channel since DDR5, but not QUAD channel). So either you had to buy 2x 8GB or buy a 16GB to move to 32 to get quad channel. All at a pretty high cost comparable to the unit in today's RAM prices.
So having it soldered on board natively in quad channel brings the base performance of these way closer to the F1 series with the 7xxx CPU due to the memory throughput increase.
It only sucks that you can't go to 32 anymore, but who will for years at the current pricing, if you don't just buy it up front and pay the premium anyway?

*Dual vs. Quad naming discussions not intended. DDR5 works differently than DDR4 and earlier. You can either say DualDual or Quad. DDR 5 by default is 2x32bit not 1x64 bit. So you still need pairs to achieve maximum throughput regardless of what you call it. And since these new soldered boards are 4x 4GB that means it is already optimally laid out even though you can't upgrade from there, at least you're not also paying a penalty of no upgrade and no dual/quad level perf.

Sincere question: is that enough now days? I hear people speak of elements, baked-in, so to speak, into the hardware components, that are reintegrated into any new OS install. Or maybe that has to do with the Windows license and nothing else. Please correct me if I'm wrong, for I admittedly do not know. I'm attempting to separate hearsay from reality. Thanks.
When I recently did a clean windows install on Acer laptop, running windows update automatically installed some of the Acer crapware again. So in some respects you may be counting on Microsoft to vet this stuff.

I keep considering buying one of these and then I realize I have three or four unused laptops just sitting around here that can do the same or more.

Ram prices have come down 20% since their highs.

RAM prices are crashing in huge 'market correction': New report shows the crisis may be subsiding as... [tomsguide.com]
On one hand, it seems the consumer RAM prices have topped at a "no longer willing to pay more" level. On the other hand, the TurboQuant news might just enable people to run bigger models instead of using less RAM for the same model. PCPartPicker RAM charts don't show a huge price drop yet, but sales with 20% off coupon codes, etc., might not be shown there. Time will tell how the overall market moves, but it's always easier to close those tabs you'll never read than it is to buy more RAM Wink

Thanks for sharing your feelings. My reply stands. Try and imagine that your subjective threat risk and comfort level aren't universal. TheDealMcCoy is free to consider what I said and do whatever they want. There's a sharp pattern with these deals where anyone who has questions about security or even explains security concerns gets heckled. There's zero harm in informing others of risk and less than zero harm if other people prefer or need more security than you.
The risk is slight considering no other mini pc's have been shown to have the bios infected. There was one Acemagic run, that had the operating system hacked to add malware. If you want to call these facts heckling you, or say that those of us just don't understand how it works if we don't take your level of concern, that is fine. The facts stand.

it says output is hdmi 2.1 but can only do 4K 60? I'm trying to buy something to use moonlight game streaming from my main PC to living room, but i want to do 4K 120hz. I thought hdmi 2.1 can do 4k 120hz.
This seems like the best mini value and skips from usa so no customs

I was getting the same thing, for me I searched "firebat 6600h" and then sorted by price low-high. Clicked on the first result and it took me to the correct item and I was able to apply the coupon and check out. Kinda weird

That's what I'm planning to do. Claude says it's plenty powerful enough to run Proxmox and 1-2 VMs. The limiting factor is the nonupgradeable RAM
I run 7 (2 qemu, 5 lxc) on this exact config from gmktec. However, passing the igpu through to my windows vm was hell.
