You can use https://audiobookdb.net to check prices to see whether the sale prices are worth committing to a temporary subscription.

For casual listeners like myself with a paid Spotify account, you can stream/download up to 15 hours of audiobooks per month. It's not much, but usually enough for one or two books.

Community Reviews

Audible is running a strong sitewide audiobook sale with standout prices on popular series and wishlist titles, including Project Hail Mary for $5.99, Dungeon Crawler Carl around $4 to $5, and Expanse books 7 through 9 near $4 each. Other deals include Alex Rider at $2 to $3 and Jim Weiss stories around $2 for younger kids. The best pricing appears tied to active Premium Plus or Silver access, while trial, Standard, or expired plans may not show the discounts. Sale items can also show as 1 Credit at checkout, so the dollar price needs to be selected carefully.

I'm on the crappy new "standard" tier and it's still showing me the sale prices, so not just for Premium Plus. ("standard" tier doesn't let you listen to the audiobook anymore if your subscription is cancelled.)

Oh good, Amazon enshittified their subscriptions, I see.

Before, if they offered a free trial or reduced price trial, you still got a credit each month. Looks like that is gone unless you pay for the premium plan and it looks like you don't get access to the sales either.

Thanks amazon, for giving me more reason to remove myself from your services.

You're seeing the $5 books? That's lucky, I was on standard tier and they were on sale but still like $20 each.

Hope this helps someone, but I only have Amazon Prime and I see the Audible sale prices on Amazon's site. You just need to select the audiobook version and then scroll down to see the sale price. It's below where it says it's "Free with Audible subscription".

That's because the Standard plan doesn't come with credits.
It gives you a credit a month but you only get to keep the books you buy as long as you stay subscribed. Not sure I really get it but seems like it's mainly geared to people who want the audible original content and podcasts .

You keep all of the books you purchase outright or use credits to purchase. You do unfortunately lose accumulated monthly credits if your subscription expires or is cancelled before you use them. Learned that the hard way and it's a prime example of enshitification imo. The Plus membership catalog is decent, but I think it's pretty clear that $14.95/month is mainly for the luxury of buying a book of your choice to own in perpetuity. Losing those credits when you cancel is absurd.
Not even true for the new standard plan.

Project Hail Mary is available at $5.99: https://www.audible.com/pd/Projec...roduct_1_3
Project Hail Mary is an outstanding book and the audible version is better than the printed version. There are things in the book that need to be heard. Those who have read it know what I'm talking about. The narrator is outstanding.

Really? Did that change recently? The last time I did the 99 cent per month deal for 3 months, I got to keep the audio books after those 3 months.

Same here, but that was before they had the "standard" tier. Now it's a different tier. It did change recently-ish.

Premium plus still lets you keep credit purchases after cancelling, new standard plan doesn't.

Where does it say that? It doesn't sound right.

That isn't correct, if you cancel your subscription any unused credits are forfeited.

Any audiobooks you purchase with credits, on the premium plus tier, WILL remain available in your account even if you cancel your subscription.

But you need to use all credits before cancelling.
