Seems like a pretty good deal, I paid ~$150 in February from Amazon.
This router runs OpenWRT, so it is very configurable. I was having issues with my mesh router and missed DD-WRT from the olden days. I've been running this single router for the past ~2 months and it's been rock solid. I get coverage in my entire 2 story house with the router in the basement, more reliable than a mesh system with 3 total devices!
I haven't really used any of the advanced features yet, but I'm glad they're available and there's less likelihood of this being abandonware in the future.

The GL.iNet Flint 3e (GL-BE6500) WiFi 7 router is currently subject to sale restrictions in the USA due to a delayed launch, and no FCC approval.
Hmmm, not really - Amazon.com has been (and still is) selling it. I got a couple of them for a project just yesterday.

Tempting since it's Wifi7, has a bunch of 2.5Gb Lan Ports for a NAS, and OPENWRT.

This is a fantastic router. I have been running it since December and it's got great speed and coverage. The gli framework is really useful- I run a VPN on the guest WiFi to have it automatically connect to the state or country I'd prefer.

Do you add your own VPN, or it has one built-in?

Unless something has changed, it should be clarified that this router runs a custom version of OpenWRT that GL.iNet (hopefully) maintains. This is a departure from the much loved Flint 2 which ran the regular OpenWRT that anyone could build/customize. This change was due to a change in the system on a chip they use, and it's not likely to ever be fixed. Now GL.iNet does seem like a decent vendor so hopefully they support it with builds for a while, but only time will tell. This change created a lot of ill will in the OpenWRT community which is a bummer as the Flint 2 is beloved there (but stuck on WiFi 6).

The same Aliexpress seller also has the Flint 3 (GL.iNet GL-BE9300 Flint 3 Tri-Band WiFi 7 ) for $20 more. that includes tri band and 6 ghz wifi 7 which will be a massive upgrade as the band is not heavily trafficked . other specs are similar

The Flint 3e was certified long ago.

It's the Flint 4 that is stuck.

Indeed. 3e has Qualcomm 1.5 GHz vs Flint 2 MediaTek 2 GHz.

MediaTek is actually better for OpenWRT, too.

Problem is MT got behind on Wi-Fi 7.

Depends on whether the seller is US-based or you get one based overseas.

Do you have the link? I'm not seeing the seller name on the page. Not sure if you have to be logged in.
