I agree, its quite small, but its also not 23 "square inches" its 23 "inch square". This means its either 23 inches across opposite corners (about a 16x16 square/256 square inches = tiny), or 23 inches per side 529 square inches, about 2/3 the size of your average griddle (modest sized). Its not big, but could hold a couple logs for a small gathering.
