The DeWalt StealthSonic 12 gallon wet dry vac stands out for being unusually quiet while still feeling powerful, with several comparisons to loud Ridgid and Craftsman shop vacs. The 2.5 inch hose and contractor kit add appeal, and the premium hose is described as more rubberized and less likely to kink. The main tradeoff is size, since the 12 gallon body can feel large for smaller spaces, though the quieter exhaust and lack of blower function are part of what make it so calm to use. At $75, it reads as a strong value for a shop or garage setup.

  • The premium hose may require extra attention because hose rotation can be difficult without an aftermarket swivel tip.

  • The adapter installation can be confusing because users may struggle to find where to screw it on.

    montanadaypnw_wildcat

  • The Costco model number difference can create uncertainty about whether the yellow hose is truly 2-1/2" diameter.

  • The cyclone filter setup can be a pain to manage, even when the vacuum itself performs well.

Buy now, think later price! I wanted a stealth sonic a few years ago but saw a screaming deal on a vacmaster beast which ironically has a yellow and black color scheme. It was a major reduction in noise from my old Craftsman, but I'm eager to see if this one is worth the switch. Thanks OP for finding this.

Do you install the aftermarket piece into the vacuum or the end of the hose where you vacuum?
That just took me to the Etsy landing page. Do you have a link to the part itself? I'd like to order since I know it works. Thank you.

I have the 9 gallon model and it's crazy quiet for a shop vac. Unless this model has a hose that more easily rotates, I'd strongly suggest ordering this aftermarket part. It will save your sanity when using the vacuum.

I think SD is messing up the link. Search for 1-7/8" Swivel Vac-Hose Tip. It's sold by a vendor named SuctionEqualsSafety.

Link not going to exact product, can you post link again or give more specificity on the exact name, several "swivel-vac-hose-tip" items come up on Etsy. Thanks, very interested

I believe I installed it on the end of the hose, near the attachment. It's locked up in my shed at the moment and I don't have quick access.

"https://www.etsy.com/listing/1285952791/2-12-swivel-vac-hose-tip" The hose size on the Dewalt is 2 1/2"
Mine was 1 7/8", so I'm wondering if the house on the 9 gallon is more narrow?

It is. The 9 gallon StealthSonic is a 1 7/8" hose, while the 12 Gallon is 2 1/2"

Awesome deal! My Ridgid is so loud that I wear ear protection while using it, or for smaller jobs, I use my battery shopvac just because it's quieter. Looking forward to selling that one and not needing to do that anymore.
Get a ridgid muffler diffuser. Knock offs are only $10. Helps with noise and blowing stuff around from the exhaust port.
