ive had a ryobi and kobalt (that run off the drill batteries) and both crapped out in short order

I concur. Ryobi hand compressor started making noise after a week of bike tires/ light use then smoke, pop and smell. The replacment is starting to do the same thing. Cheap plastic crap.

How did they capture and store those lightning bolts on the left side of the device? Does this ever need charging if the captured lightning bolts power it? Is there an inherent risk of being struck by lightning if something malfunctions on the device?

Yes, they do fill car tires. But, the gauge might not be 100% accurate. I would use a separate digital tire pressure gauge to make sure. It is loud too.

Thor himself builds these. I've heard the ones Zeus builds are better quality though

I have ryobi for few years and still works good. It does say don't use it more than 5 min at a time and let it cool down.
