I have this combo unit and I do not recommend it. I repeat, I do not recommend it. Yes, I cleaned the filters religiously. I even got a new filter because it had so many problems. The tech is not there yet. It's essentially a dehumidifier working as the dryer and i can guarantee you will run into problems. If you want to spend your money to test the product because you are an early-adopter, fine but be prepared to replace it after a few years.

I'm split on this. I have had one for over two years now. I think it's great and highly recommend it granted you stay on top of maintenance. I simply take a baby wipe after each cycle and wipe down all the lint that accumulates at the gasket, and clean out the drain pump filter once a month, as well as the main filter under some running water.

The main reason I would recommend against this is that R-134a is getting sunet due to EPA regualtions. I think we can expect next generation of these LG, Samsung, and GE (The main three heat pump all in one washer dryer units) are going to update their offerings and address a lot of their shortcomings this year. The main one is that LG and GE both lack automatic opening the door once the cycle is complete. We can also expect all of them to update their designs to better address the lint accumlation over the radiator. Lastly the next generation will move to R-290 which will need a different heat pump altogether that may require sensors (further pushing redesigns). If I had to go back and pick, I'd actually take the samsung since the clothes do come out feeling crispy dry (not just 95% dry), and the door automatically opens to let risidual humidity out.

For those on the fence, consider the above, in addition to your price point. The new units will absolutely not be cheap or anywhere close to this price.

i have similar all in one unit from samsung, higher review rating. it is way more convenient compared to my old 2 units setup. so far (after 2 years), laundry comes out bone dry, even more dry than my previous dedicated dryer unit. however, there are 2 complaints:
1) the laundry finished without the "laundry fresh scent" i had with 2 separate units
2) the laundry finished like someone in hyper distress trying to squeeze dry each piece of laundy, is it just so wrinkle beyond what i can imagine.

will i go back to 2 units setup, probably not, as I appreciate the convenience, space saving and power saving more than above 2 downsides.

This is kind of where my head is at, even though the reviews scare me a little bit. I don't have a ton of laundry, so I'm not super worried, but still. The math just adds up for me. My units are 11 years old and I'd hate to have to buy a $700-800 emergency replacement when i can get this for $1000. That's where my mental math is headed, but I'm very curious to see how it works out.

We also have the Samsung.

"Downy unstopables"
https://downy.com/en-us/fabric-so...nstopables

True story:
After working on the house all day... I needed to drop something off at USPS.
As i was walking out, i opened and held the door for a youg lady entering.
As I'm approaching my car, she's walking briskly toward me and stops in my personal space.
Compliments my scent and asked what I was wearing...I said just some work clothes, I've been working on the house most of day.

Strange!

About a week later same reaction.. but this time it's a close friend.
I laughed, and told her the above story.
She ended up contacting my wife and asked what she's using on laundry.
(That's how I found out about the Downy unstopables)

Currently BJs has a great deal if purchase with Tide. [bjs.com]

This is a bad product for me,
- does not dry well or often unable to dry clothes
- drain pump breaks every few months
- drain pipe ruptured
- no actual warranty as they didn't have crew. So I had to do repairs every few months myself

How do you know if the drain pump ruptures

I have this unit, 2 actually. I replaced my separate washer and dryer and for us it's been a game changer. Once you understand how it operates best, most things described here and the reviews are a non issue. The key things are to maintain a clean filter that means 3 things:

1. The lint filter it self
2 the radiator filter, which needs to be clear of lint accumulation that can get wet and make drying less efficient.
3. The drain on the bottom, which needs to be flushed out for sand and lint that accumulates at the bottom of drum.

I like to do this all once a month. Takes me about 10 minutes to do both and it's a good time to wipe the machine down to keep it looking clean and smelling fresh.

Aside from that, machines work as expected. Set it, let "Ai" wash and dry do its thing and then get an alert on your phone letting you know your laundry is ready to fold. 2 other tips to consider:

1. Try and pull the laundry not too long after it's done to avoid humidity from accumulating.
2. Don't overstuff the machine. This applies to most dryers anyways. They need room for the heat to circulate the clothes.

I picked up the extra 3 year warranty from LG directly. Havent had to use it yet going on 1.5 years.

Happy to answer any other questions.
Hi!
I appreciate your post. Is the warranty direct from LG better than getting the Allstate extended from Costco? I just ordered two units with two Allstate warranties. But I assume I can get my money back on the warranties. What are the differences? Can you tell me what they cost?
Thanks!

Costco Samsung heat pump version was the WORST. It would hard press wrinkles into my husband's pants without fail. The vent trap was always clogged. After dealing with the same issues no matter was solutions we tried for a year, we ended up getting a new washer/dryer side by side. Haven't had any issues.

I have the same thought. I've had one about 6 months now so not yet a long term owner but the folks complaining about lint building up in places it shouldn't or causing water on the floor most likely are not doing the prescribed filter cleanings (two filters are every load, then every 30 days you need to wash the drum and clear the water line lint trap... Otherwise it backs up and spills over).
For me it's an amazing trade-off that saves space and means I no longer forget wet laundry in the washer!!
Yeah #1 reason I want one of these is because ADHD and laundry is a bad combination. Frown Can't imagine how much money we waste double, triple etc running loads.

Quote from theshopper2022 :
My wife was an idiot before i met her when it came to laundry. It happens when you live in an apartment and have to pay per load. People jam it so it doesn't wash properly or dry. I have bought 3 star appliances and I am convince people are stupid and don't have common sense in using things properly.
I don't think it's a lack of common sense, just nobody ever taught anyone how to use something they never owned. My wife didn't know to pull the lint after every load. Hell the comments in this thread and in review threads on Reddit are full of people complaining that they have to remove the lint filter after every load and I'm just super confused because I thought that was baseline for any dryer?

I was contemplating buying the Samsung versions of this at Costco a few months ago. The single unit was $1800 IIRC. If there's a vented version I might go for it.
If you want vented (which I would not), then Samsung is your only option. Their normal models are also heat pump though, same as LG and GE, so probably harder to find a good sale on the niche version.

I can't say if the LG warranty is better or not. I paid $129 per unit for 3 years of extended warranty, which starts after the 1 year manufacturer warranty. I figured it would be easiest to deal directly with LG for any issues. Looks like it's Asurion who handle their claims anyways though. You're probably fine with the Costco extended plan. Enjoy the machine, I really think it's great and many of the comments here don't reflect my experience with it.

I think biggest issue (I don't have all in 1's nor plan to purchase one so this is all coming from my head so take it with HUGE grain of salt) is breakage.
My "simple" dryer lasted me about 30 yrs and still going strong, washer, did last about 20 years for me but that is considered extra ordinarily long time for front loader since it has many high speed moving parts (and it is an LG). If one breaks, in this case, both are gone.
Second issue in this case is 5cubic feet is VERY big for washer drum size, but it is barely "adequate" size for dryer ESPECIALLY to pair with such a large washer and I have feeling that is probably the most reason for complaint of not drying and excessive wrinkles. If you have a room, you tend to use it and fundamentally, dryer needs a lot more room than washer. For 5CF washer, it SHOULD be paired with 7CF dryer.

Sounds like this takes longer to perform the wash/dry cycles, require multiple touches to perform an increased number of maintenance steps, and does not result in the same level of dryness (less) or winkles (more).
Seems like a sidegrade at this point of the consumer tech development instead of a true advanced replacement. Like, should anyone replace their speed queens with this in 2026.
