LifeSupplyUSA on eBay has been pretty solid when it comes to aftermarket filters. I've tried a few others but they were mostly no-name brands and they're no longer being sold. I also buy official Winix filters when they're on sale for cheaper than usual with credit card point deals. Ironically, I found the LifeSupplyUSA filters to actually be thicker and slighter better made and the official OEM filters.

is it really better than generic brands also claiming HEPA?

That means the bearings in the fan motor are going bad

I'm honestly a bit surprised these are lasting long enough for anyone to need replacement filters. All 5 of my c545s started making death squeals within a year and went back to Costco…

I don't get it. Isn't it $27 for 1 on Amazon? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QUZJAS

Mine just had the WiFi chip stop working. No more app connectivity!

Mine have been like this since about a year after purchasing. I've still been using it all these years. Is there any functional issue? I can live with the sound

Any chance you can share your personal opinion on which ones you thought were good and which are not?
We like the Pulluty filters on Amazon. $28 for 2 HEPA + 8 Carbon filters right now. Even cheaper if you have a full Subscribe and Save shipment.

It really depends on the generic ones you get. I've had some good success with some filters but also have had some there were clearly inferior with thinner material. So if you find a decent generic, you can definitely get similar OEM like filters.
Totally agree with this statement. Unfortunately the generic brands come and go so often and the names are so weird that it is difficult to find any consistency for those that have the same lifespan as the OEM filters. This is a great deal for a filter that will typically last a year. Sometimes if you are lucky you can find a generic that is $15 or so that will last 6 months. That is about the maximum I have seen in my experimenting over the past few years. Alas I am no longer a Winix fan due to their planned obsolescence with the bearings in the fan motor. I've had several units over the years and they all started the bearing whine after the warranty expired. Thank goodness for Costco return policy and credit card warranties!

Not necessarily bad, but loose. You can find videos on YouTube on how to open the back of the unit to tighten that bolt. It's fairly simple. I did it and... the high pitch noise is gone. A drop of superglue to keep it tightened goes a long way.

Yeah, that's the problem with Winix Air Cleaners after you use them for a while, particularly the "white" ones like the C545. Drives me crazy.

You bought from a different site that sells quantity 1 and use that as proof that Costco's quantity 2 listing is wrong?

If you can tolerate it you can probably keep using it like that for a long time, but at some point those bearings are either going to slowly keep getting louder until they lock up the fan motors ability to rotate, or they will just break completely and it will be the loudest fan you've ever heard. If you are technically inclined or know someone that is, you can replace the bearings with relative ease. Bearings are usually only a few dollars a piece depending on the brand and quality of bearing. I have the old 5500-2 model and I had to change the bearings in mine after like 3 years. I think it took 608 style bearings.

I have 3 and one had bearings make the whine noise. Watched a YouTube video of how to replace it. It's a bit involved with disassembling the motor (need soldiering iron for 3 large contact points) and then pulling off the old bearings (hack is to use two box wrenches to get then off).
