These have a bitter coating on them which can cause connection issues in certain devices. The coating can be removed by lightly sanding it off, or wiping it off with rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol.

All I saw was "child resistant packaging"
so if you need them for smoke detectors, may be a better choice
