FYI this device doesn't support third party firmware like openwrt, so you're at the mercy of tp-link for firmware updates and security patches. In modern times with modern devices and use cases it is my opinion that you shouldn't invest in a single expensive AP anyway. Instead go for 3-4 cheap wired APs and spread them around the house. If you can't wire them in, look into wireless mesh. You'll get better results in almost all real world use cases than what you'll get with a single AP like this.

I've had this router for 7+ years. I originally got this from Costco when it was like 200ish or something. I love this thing. 50+ devices connected to a Verizon 1GB plan. Google home for everything. No hiccups; no issues.

Not correct, you need to read the whole FCC release... All routers that have already received FCC authorization (like this one), can still be sold in the US and there will be new inventory. Only NEW models will not receive FCC authorization and thus can not be sold in the US. Since most routers are made in Asia, for now, we're basically stuck with what's out there. New models like the upcoming IEEE 802.11bn (WIFI 8), will have issues ti get authorized.

I have this and works well.

Biggest negative is its older and TP Link is not known to keep its routers well updated as they age.

This worked perfectly with centurylink fiber. Was able to log in with my credentials and not use any centurylink hardware. Rock solid for 5 years.

Moved from my house into an apartment and now have xfinity cable. Xfinity is.. awful. Constant issues. Have to reboot their modem in bridge mode and deal with other issues. Their modem wasnt working right with this router at first (problem on their end).

Anyways, router is solid but you might have to fight with cable providers to fix their end more than once. Fiber is perfect.

this improved my gaming ping from my prior router by about 7 to 10 ms, was surprising that it did that. And that's a set it and forget it scenario with no tinkering. I don't remember off hand what my prior router was but I think I had a pretty good linksys. I've had this one for over 5 maybe 6 years?

This is an amazing router. I used it for two years or so sold it and upgraded the new Wi-Fi 7 TPlink. Never had a problem.

Would this really be an upgrade over something more modern like TP-Link Dual-Band BE5000? I just bought that a couple of months ago and wondering if I should get this instead. 7 yr old router seems quite outdated though.
