This refurbished Acer Vero 514 Chromebook stands out for strong value at this price, with an i3 1215U, 8GB of memory, and 128GB of storage that should feel snappy for everyday browsing and schoolwork. The chip is repeatedly described as much faster than the N305, and the machine can be repurposed with Linux, or even Windows 11 with Coolstar tinkering. The main tradeoffs are a 250 nit screen, no touch support, and storage that is workable but tight. It looks like a capable budget laptop if touch and extra space are not priorities.
Common Questions (5)
Windows 11 can reportedly be installed with Coolstar tools and some tinkering. ChromeOS also supports Linux in a built-in container, which is easier than a native Linux install; a native Linux install is also possible if you want a more flexible setup.
Yes. It is described as about 2x faster in single-core work and up to 3.7x faster in multi-core work than the compared CPU, and it should feel noticeably snappier than an N305 for browsing and general use.
No touchscreen is listed for this model. That matters if you want Android app use or touch-first navigation, since the lack of touch can be a limitation for those uses.
The screen is described as 250 nits in the comments, not 300 nits. Color quality is still described as very good, but brightness may feel a little dim compared with brighter laptops.
128GB is on the tight side, but it is still considered workable for this price. It is a better fit if you mainly browse, stream, and use lightweight apps rather than storing lots of files locally.

No touchscreen so it may not be best to run android apps.
Storage is on the tight side but still doable. For the price it couldn't be beat, if touchscreen is not a must for you.
