Got one as a backup, have two Fire4K sticks still running from when Woot was doing fire sales of them for like $12.
Had 3 but one bricked itself a year ago and got replaced with an ONN4K box.
Like people said, the ONN4K is definitely more robust, but the FireSticks are set to auto launch Kodi at startup and we have them going through a home AdGuard server to block updates and such. Kodi can launch the Android apps as well so we did the Olympics with Peacock with barely any ads (AdGuard again) and it's simple enough that everyone in the house can control it without needing tech support (me).
As a 16 dollar back up Kodi device it'll go into a drawer.

Yep. Nobody uses firestick anymore, I tossed all 4 of mine and replaced them with the ONN 4k android boxes, like most people. And you can completely shut off google if you want. No worries of blocked or deleted apps.

this isn't that "Fire Stick select" where nothing can be side loaded but you should definitely look into at least setting up an OpenDNS Home account or private DNS blocking on your router/etc to disable updates and phoning home.
They have wireless ADB and can be debloated a bit with some technical knowhow, but you should definitely not trust Amazon to limit what can be put on it at any moment (hence the update blocking)

Serious question, what streaming services do you have that actually support 4k? Also, if video quality is that important, you may want to look into better streaming boxes. I've got an ONN 4k pro box on my mid range tv, an Apple TV and PS5 on my good tv and chromecast with google TV in the kids rooms. A $16 fire tv stick is not going to deliver the same quality as a $100 streaming box. Just something to consider

Probably not possible to jailbreak, good deal for Prime users as-is? Maybe.
Thanks for the link!

The ONN Google TV OS at Walmart is better for side-loading. Amazon is blocking a bunch of apps.
Only app you need is stremio and these support it

I tried the onn stick recently, it requires a google account to work. Looks like the only one with minimal ads and tracking is apple tv

1. The entire topic is on side-loaded streaming apps so of course those all provide 4k content. Kodi, Stremio, Nuvio, Syncler, Plex, etc. and the like all provide 4k with not too much effort.

2. Why would "a $16 fire tv stick is not going to deliver the same quality as a $100 streaming box" ? In an apples-to-apples comparison of full-featured 4k/hdr/dolby vision/dolby audio/etc streamers the bottleneck would be your TV or projector. Most firesticks support H.265, H.264, VP9, AV1 codecs along with Dolby Vision, HDR, HLG.

It always feels like a lot of people commenting on these threads concerning quality have this superfluous and almost mythical understanding of what "quality" actually means and spread misinformation on this topic without a foundational understanding of how pixels and colours appear to your eyes via whichever display medium you're using.

I'm all about Amazon Fire TV Sticks. I don't know if anything offers the unified search like Amazon. You can be at the home screen and voice search for a certain movie or TV show and it searches a large amount of the streaming services, telling you which one(s) the show's on. Then, you can go right to it. Amazon went through a lot of work for that. I don't love everything Amazon does, but that was one feature you can't beat with a stick! (See what I did there?)
