I have all three colors listed (because I have a purchasing problem... and I know there's a fourth Spice Orange colorway too). These are my favorite controllers for 2D games. Be warned, there has been issues in the past with the alternate face buttons (SFC colorway) cracking from regular use. This is mostly due to the dye used, which causes the plastic to become brittle. I only use the original face buttons, so I have not encountered this issue.

One thing I've noticed is that when using the short throw trigger switch, there is significantly less travel when compared to the Ultimate 2. For games that don't require the analog input, having that near instant click is fantastic.

May I ask why these are your favorite controllers for 2D games?

You may!

So, the main reason why I like them is because of the symmetrical layout, similar to what we've seen on every single Sony PlayStation controller (joysticks are next to each other, rather than being offset like on Xbox or Nintendo). The difference between the 8BitDo Pro 3 and any PlayStation controller is that the Pro 3 has a hybrid membrane/mechanical system. It's clicky like the newer Xbox controllers (Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X), but it has a little membrane feel to it so it's not as loud or pronounced.

I've owned every generation of PlayStation controller and while PS4/PS5 are tied for the best Sony controller, the 8BitDo Pro 3 beats them out for the reasons below:
  1. TMR sticks.
  2. Hall effect triggers with short throw adjustable switches.
  3. Compatible with Switch, Switch 2 (with console wake), PC, Android/iOS.
  4. 8BitDo quality and customer service.

I bought most of mine during Prime Days where Amazon offers an additional discount on Amazon Resale products and just buy "Used - Like New", so they varied around $30-$40 and I've been very happy with all of mine.
