Anyone know if this needs a dongle to work with the original switch?

Saying "long long long way" is BS, but I will tell you that the GameSir Nova Lite is usually $20 on AliExpress. That's a full-sized, ergonomic controller, not flat like this one. So I'd argue it's a better buy unless you need something compact.

Hyperkin been around for a long time but can't comment on their controller. I have a bunch of 8bitdo and they are good quality

How is it these 3rd party controllers can have hall effect/tmr so cheap but the $80+ controllers from the big name companies have the basic stick drift prone ones.

I have the Tetris version of it and there is no dongle, it's fully Bluetooth and it works natively with Switch and Switch 2, no firmware update needed (although I don't believe Hyperkin has firmware updates for it). It will not wake Switch 2 from sleep though.

3rd party controllers need an advantage over big name companies to sell their product.

Big name companies can get away with cheaper components because they know people out there don't trust 3rd party controllers.

Your comment would have been helpful if you had actually named alternatives.
