They're trying to get rid of old stock now that the XM6 is out. That said I think I paid a little under 300 like 2 years ago so it's crazy that they only dropped it to 250. I've had good luck with the hinges because I'm careful but I can definitely see them breaking if I'm a little rougher.

These have notoriously poor build quality. Not worth the risk for the price.

I might just be lucky, but I've worked out in these for years, ran in them, travelled around the world in them and the hinge feels no different than the day I got it.

you could literally say this about anything down to like the bones to your arm. I'm gonna need like published scientific data please instead of some rando on reddit with buyers remorse they sat on their head phones and it broke.

Build quality is horrendous go with the Bose quiet comfort ultra build quality is much better as well as metal hinges all while being lightweight. I had to return the Xm5 acting holding them cheap plastic.

Go for the XM4s. Larger drivers, better build quality, less expensive. Unless you need a specific feature from the XM5. They go on sale regularly as well.

Additionally, there are at least two manufacturers that make hinge strengthening/repair kits for the XM5s. Not so with any other Sony model.

I've had these since February 2023. They saw daily use ~5-8 hrs and I sleep 8+ hrs with them listening to rain as white noise. No issues at all other than having to replace the ear pads a few times and they headband is tattered. I still wear them every night and use the XM6's as a daytime replacement.
tldr: wore them ~16hrs a day for 2.5 years without issue.
