aulani is a decent place for young children as there are many activities, but the pool/lounge chair situation is absolutely crazy. if you want two or more loungechairs together and close to the pool at any point in the day, you better be out there at or before 8AM to reserve it. then circle back every hour to retain your spot. $800 a night is not crazy for a luxury experience, but aulani is not that. it is a 3.5 star hotel at best

No kidding. You can get a 8 day Mediterranean cruise for 2 for the price of those rooms.

The first part of the promo for a Hawaii hotel being the distance from the airport says all you need to know

We stayed here last year. Perhaps it's because we never fully adjusted to the time zone change, but we were up at 6AM most days. We were a group of 7 and it was never an issue to get an excellent spot each day. One or two of us would go down by 7AM with a coffee (or grab a coffee at the pool bar), reserve the chairs and sit and relax until 8AM, when you were officially allowed to leave your belongings on the chairs.

As you said, they police the chairs so you must be back within an hour or lose them, but it was never difficult to have any kind of presence at the chairs, unless we were leaving the resort. I actually loved that they were constantly clearing chairs so that people couldn't dump their stuff at 8AM and not come back until 2PM to actually use them.

On the days we went on excursions and came back in the afternoon, we were always able to find chairs on the beach, not seven together but always at least four.

Aulani is expensive but it was the best vacation we ever took. My children are still begging to go back. The view we had from our room was nothing short of magical. The Ko Olina area is small, easy to walk around, and has several excellent restaurants and shops.

The chair thing is a legitmate complaint, but we found it easy enough to navigate.

I mean if you want to stay in Ko'olina you can often find Marriott Ko'olina for $400/night which imo is still too expensive. Just book a cheaper hotel in Waikiki and drive up there if you want to swim at the beaches.

The location is nice. We passed by a few times. But absolutely no way would we pay $700 plus to stay here. It's not my idea of a relaxing stay to force myself to get up early to reserve deck chairs for the group. Expensive food and activities. The lagoon is nice but you can pay for parking and stay at any of the lagoons for free. The food is much nicer and cheaper outside this area. For $700 plus a night for a non luxurious room, you can fly and stay anywhere. The place is packed in the late morning/afternoon

Stayed there for 10 days last summer. Never had an issue finding a chair The people who complain about that seem to have a specific spot they want

I would say it's far from busy compared to Waikiki. Beautiful area, stayed at the Marriott next door. However, I would t pay these prices

You passed by a few times? You must have stayed in Waianae or kept going there to score?

whoever said waikiki is a different vibe, i agree. was there a few months ago. that's why i said in the first post that this is a 30-min drive from honolulu (which is closer to waikiki). rented a car and went to north shore for the sightseeing, dole plantation and food trucks. those waves up in north shore tho. EEK!

we spent one night here, you're paying for brand. The rooms were like a motel room but in Big buildings in Hawaii. How can you not supply any water or snacks and room service at those prices. The kids outdoor scavager hunt was fun and the lazy river and water park was good.
