Community Reviews
Google Nest Doorbell Wired 3rd Gen is a wired video doorbell that stands out for sharp 2K video, strong night footage, and Gemini features that can summarize events without scrubbing through clips. The subscription mainly adds video history and AI cloud features, while the doorbell still works without it. It can be viewed in either the Nest app or Google Home, and the wired install replaces an existing powered doorbell. Main concerns are support risk, possible delays or reliability issues on older Nest units, and some reports that night vision is dimmer than before.
Common Questions (5)
It is wired in by replacing an existing doorbell that already has power behind it. If the transformer or wiring is weak, the chime may not ring reliably until the connection is fixed or the transformer is upgraded.
The 2nd-gen Nest was reported to have a very delayed video feed, and older Nest units were also reported to miss rings or fail to load at times. This thread does not confirm that the 3rd gen fixes those issues, only that it is the newer wired model.
Yes. The doorbell can be used without a subscription, but the subscription mainly adds video history and AI/cloud features. Without it, you still get live viewing and talk, but recorded event access is limited.
You can view the camera feed in either the Nest app or Google Home. Newer cameras and other devices may push you toward Google Home over time, but the Nest app still works for viewing.
It has better resolution and sound than older Nest models, and one comparison says its night video is better than Ring Doorbell Pro. A caveat is that the new model's night vision can look dimmer than older Nest doorbells.

The Gemini features are actually handy. I can ask if my kid came into the kitchen last night and grabbed a cookie, and it can tell me without having to scrub footage.

Without a subscription this is just a door bell you can see and talk to someone at your door and not a security device.
Is this a new version? Worth the switch? Reliable?

The new camera has much better resolution and sound. The colors are more saturated and don't look as natural. The night vision I think is actually worse on the new one, it's not as green but it's also dimmer than the old Nest doorbells.
