Google Nest Doorbell Wired 3rd Gen is a wired video doorbell that stands out for sharp 2K video, strong night footage, and Gemini features that can summarize events without scrubbing through clips. The subscription mainly adds video history and AI cloud features, while the doorbell still works without it. It can be viewed in either the Nest app or Google Home, and the wired install replaces an existing powered doorbell. Main concerns are support risk, possible delays or reliability issues on older Nest units, and some reports that night vision is dimmer than before.

Make sure the wires going into your transformer are properly making contact. When I replaced my parents' doorbell, the chime wasn't going off. Saw the connection into the transformer was held in place by just one strand of copper, which apparently wasn't enough power with the new doorbell. Tightened that up and it began to work great.
i have one of the "original" ones too, and it did not ring. the transformer was never upgraded to a video transformer. i do get the alerts on my phone.

Does this require using the google home app to view the camera feed? I have resisted upgrading all of my older google cameras because i'm still using the old Nest software. Is the Google Home software good enough now that switching isnt painful?

You can look at the camera feed from the nest app or google home.

that's actually a pretty cool feature. I usually just ask my wife though, she seems to know everything that goes on around the house.
That means she is on the offense. You might want to consider causing a fumble or interception before it's too late.

Can it call the police on your 19 year old when it spots her cracking open a White Claw?

I also preferred the Nest app but slowly with new cameras I was forced to migrate them (and the smoke detectors) to the Google Home App. It's gotten better. For a few things I still think the Nest app was better but GHA is fine now. I even removed my Nest app at this point to keep new and old cameras all in one place.

Yeah I need to update, my back yard camera died recently and the new google outdoor cams look pretty good but I've held off due to GHA migration. Might as well bite the bullet and switch over now.

I had the old version and switched to Ring doorbell pro and I can confidently say the nest blew the the Ring out of the water in terms of video quality at night. Thinking about switching back

Have the 2nd gen, and the video feed is very very delayed. Wonder if 3rd gen has fixed that issue. Connected wired, and on 1g fiber.

BestBuy has a trade in "recycle and save" deal, give them any crappy old smart camera or doorbell and they'll take off 15% off the price.
If you have a nicer camera, they may give you some credit. Otherwise, any cheap cam from Amazon or Walmart for $10 will give you about $20 discount on BestBuy.
Late last year BestBuy was giving $45 for a Roku doorbell plus 15% off this Nest Doorbell. The Roku doorbell itself cost $30.

Does this need to go out to the internet? Could the delay be your home network?

I did exactly the same thing. My problem was the OG Nest started to go weird and when someone rang the doorbell it would randomly decide if it would load or not. I missed a very, very important situation with my granddaughters father showing up and causing issues and I'm sticking with Ring for now as I'm still mad. Best camera is the one with you or the one that works and Google failed me more then once.
