How does this compare to Ring doorbells? I have ring but mostly everything else I have is google so wondering it's worth the jump over to this doorbells for more seamless functionality

You replace your existing doorbell, which has power behind it..

I really like this doorbell and it's probably the best of the "consumer" level doorbells, before you climb into the Unifi / POE world.

The Gemini features are actually handy. I can ask if my kid came into the kitchen last night and grabbed a cookie, and it can tell me without having to scrub footage.

that's actually a pretty cool feature. I usually just ask my wife though, she seems to know everything that goes on around the house.

I have a battery version that I bought in 2024 so I'm not sure if it's the same thing with this model but I can only watch events that happened in the last 3 hours without a subscription which is kind of useless. When I purchased it I thought that meant 3 hours of storage but it's not. I think this one might show events that happened in the last 6 hours.

Without a subscription this is just a door bell you can see and talk to someone at your door and not a security device.

I have one since 2021, in the past few months it doesn't work perfectly, sometimes it doesn't ring. Couldn't find the problem. I think maybe the East Coast low and high temperatures are too much for it...
Is this a new version? Worth the switch? Reliable?

Can you ask it if your wife has shared the kitty with the neighbor?

Make sure the wires going into your transformer are properly making contact. When I replaced my parents' doorbell, the chime wasn't going off. Saw the connection into the transformer was held in place by just one strand of copper, which apparently wasn't enough power with the new doorbell. Tightened that up and it began to work great.

That's a common problem with the old ones. The internal battery goes bad and when someone rings the doorbell, it can't divert power back to the doorbell while staying powered by its battery. There are tutorials on how to replace the battery and you can do it for less than $20 but don't expect the until to look as good when you're done, it's pretty invasive. If you happen to be watching the video when someone rings it, you'll see that it does a sort of quick reboot and you lose the video feed as well.

The new camera has much better resolution and sound. The colors are more saturated and don't look as natural. The night vision I think is actually worse on the new one, it's not as green but it's also dimmer than the old Nest doorbells.
