It's been a while since I posted any deal but I feel this one deserves some attention. I already have a Kindle Oasis as well as a recently acquired XTEink X4 in rotation (love the X4 btw for its portability) but was looking for a large e-reader for technical pdf. I looked at the Scribe and other usual suspect but came across this one through my research and the screen technology is intriguing, it's pretty much promising color e-ink feel with a regular LCD performance so I bit the bullet and bought the bundle and so far I'm quite impressed, it functions as any regular Android tablet but the screen is something else. It's unlike any other screen that I've seen. It's matte, has no reflection, and truly is very gentle on the eyes. It has 3 modes: regular mode (like any other LCD screen), Color Paper (think Kindle ColorSoft like), and Ink Paper Mode (think e-ink like). I found myself leaving it on Color Paper mode most of the time since I mainly use this one for reading. Pairing this with a capable reader app like Moon + Reader/KOReader/ReadEra and it's really a different reading experience. I highly recommend it, especially at this price. Only downside I found so far is TCL doesn't allow the ability to switch user profile from the lock screen (how dumb), you have to go into Settings to do it. But I put up with it because of how much I like this screen.

Haven't used the stylus yet so no comment on that. The case is ok, not bad but it's built for horizontal stand. Get a proper tablet stand if you want to read in portrait mode.

Be aware that TCL refuses to sell replacement stylus tips for their tablets. The only way to get more stylus tips is to buy a brand new stylus.

Walmart has just the tablet alone for 198.

The matte screen on this looks and feels fantastic, and doesn't pick up bright spots from the room like glossy. It's been great as an e-reader and as as secondary map screen while gaming. Processor is just okay but you're not buying this for speed, it's all about the reading experience.

Not really much of a deal. I got this last month from Amazon for $255. It's been hovering around that price for quite awhile. If you don't need the case and pen, Walmart is the way to go.
Otherwise this tablet is fine. The matte screen is nicer, but it's not as amazing as I thought it'd be. People always compare it to e-ink, but there's really no comparison. It's basically just a LCD screen with a matte screen. You still get a bit of glare from bright lights, but not the blinding reflection from glossy screens, whereas e-ink has 0 problems in bright light.
This tablet also supports extend mode which is basically using this as a secondary monitor through Miracast. It works... but unfortunately there's no way to set the resolution to the tablet's resolution, or to change the scaling on the tablet so it doesn't look like crap.
Otherwise I got this mainly for webtoons. It works fine for that, but I'm still wishing they'd sell a 8" version without having to go through Verizon or buying used.

Biggest problem with this is the bloat. I have the 10 inch version. The display is great for its intended use. But man, so many useless apps get installed. You can uninstall many of them. But some of them comes back everytime you restart. Even if you disable them, some of them will come back as soon as you restart. And if there is an update? Get ready for many new bloats. The user experience is so bad.

Sad to hear. I bought a couple Lenovo Idea Tabs around black Friday. After a few days wrestling with the auto installation of crapware I gave up and sent them back. Was hoping the TCL would be a different story.

I had this and returned it. It's neat for sure. But, it's not as good as e-ink for reading, and b/c they put a weak processor, it's not as good as a decent tablet for anything else. So it is a compromise from both directions. The only use case I think it would be worth it, is reading pdfs as that is a poor experience with actual e-ink devices. (Unless maybe you have one of those massive 13" ones)

I see Walmart has this without the style and case for 198. Is this same or different?

I have this, with the case and stylus, and like it; I don't believe that this is the best price though. Sure, the processor isn't the fastest, it could use more memory, and I wish it had an sd card slot, but for the price it's fast enough and being able to write with the stylus is great. I also often use it as an external monitor when on my laptop. I haven't received any SW/firmware updates on it since I bought it, so not sure about long-term support. Regarding the "bloat" that others are talking about... some of the apps are specific to this tablet - so you can use the stylus, change screen modes, etc. Other brands are way worse IMO.

I purchased this same bundle for $230 on March 25th. If you're interested in just the tablet, VIPOutlet on ebay has Open Box for as low as $150 after coupon codes.
