how's this compare to https://slickdeals.net/f/19387551-orico-5-bay-usb-3-1-3-5-hard-drive-enclosure-non-raid-jbod-101-55?, also for $100, for a simple DAS / JBOD system? I like the look of this one more, as well as its expandability via daisy chaining, but what about eg reliability?

I got this last time when it was about $120. I use it more of a regular hard drive storage rather than raid. The speeds are typical for the HDD, about 90-180mb/sec.The drives are hard to take in and out. You have to slide to the left to pop the handle on the right and it's very difficult. The round depression isn't enough to get a grip to slide. The other issue I have with it is the power button in the back shuts the system down. It's off or on, there's no soft shut down of the system. This could potentially ruin your drive if not shut down properly. I might go back to my old thunderbolt 2, Pegasus drive system.
