Why are you here?

Not everyone has a beater car.
People do drive cars that Engines cost $20K,$30K,$40K, $50K or more to replace.

Kirkland like others, don't meet all specs for all engines.
They meet the same spec as this stuff (i.e. ILSAC GF-6 / API SP).
Very, very few cars out there call for more other than that.

I bought the 0-16 at Walmart this weekend, and it was the same price.

That's widely known, and the average is actually 11%. 15% is the absolute maximum.

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edga...0k9119.htm

"General
We operate membership warehouses based on the concept that offering our members low prices on a limited selection of nationally branded and private-label products in a wide range of categories will produce high sales volumes and rapid inventory turnover. When combined with the operating efficiencies achieved by volume purchasing, efficient distribution and reduced handling of merchandise in no-frills, self-service warehouse facilities, these volumes and turnover enable us to operate profitably at significantly lower gross margins (net sales less merchandise costs) than most other retailers. We generally sell inventory before we are required to pay for it, even while taking advantage of early payment discounts."

This is more readable then the sec filling:
https://massivemoats.substack.com...nto-costco

"Costco distinguishes itself by passing a significant portion of its economies of scale back to its members through consistently low product prices, maintaining a markup of no more than 14% (15% for Costco's private label Kirkland Signature), with a target of 11% on Costco's total cost of goods sold."
I don't see any mention of 15%, 14% from Costco directly or any reputable source. Costco just says they have low prices.
That massive moats site has no sources and looks AI written.

The 0w16 is good stuff. I'm running a 15k OCI in a plug in hybrid. Oil analysis came back good; stated typical wear for a full time motor around 6-7k miles. Can probably push OCI to 20k
Wow. And here I'm doing my best to not hit the 10k OCI (which is what the car is programmed to remind me to do).

Yes. I'll stick with the Costco Kirkland / WM Supertech / Warren synthetic since I change the oil at 5K mile max intervals. OTOH, I would consider using premium special purpose oil for cleaning my 170k mile engine - Valvoline Restore and Protect for a few oil changes if I could find it for around $25 or less per jug.
5K oil changes are for regular oil. This is a waste for synthetic

Where are the mobile 1 rebates? These used to sweeten these deals significantly.

Don't risk your engine by pushing it past the recommended change interval.

Unwise. Additives deplete and base oils breakdown and wear/sludge/etc can rise suddenly outside the interval for the product. Trace metal analysis isn't the whole story.
