Over the years I have become opposed to these style of glass jars with the metal hardware flip tops. I have had one too many splinter the glass where the lower wire hardware presses against the lip of the jar when tightening the latch.

Interesting. I haven't run into this issue, but I also generally don't use these to store high-traffic items.
