This line is highly regarded in the objective / actually engineered for hi fidelity sound crowd.
I tested the 1600 'bookshelf' model it is an excellent speaker in nearly every possible way. I have not heard the towers but would expect them to be exceptional.
I hope jbl stays in the mid priced speaker consumer market. There is talk of them going only to the classic lines (L100,L82, ect) and the synthesis stuff which is typically bonkers expensive. (Everest, Summit series, crazy expensive home movie theater custom instal stuff,)

How does this qualify as a "slick" deal? According to Amazon Rufus, this has been the same price since January.

I hear ya. I would love to try a pair of 1600's out if they went on a good sale again. I also wonder what will happen to revel. Which is also owned by harman international. A subsidiary of Samsung. As I feel they're way overdue for a refresh. I do know they have rebranded a line of revel speakers recently with the Arcam badge.

Yes, this "clearance sale" has been going on for a while & probably will for even longer.

Having heard these & 6 series(also on clearance).
These are for the devoted JBL fan with maybe a large environment & listens at high levels.
The average person would likely find these do sound better but likely incrementally imo.
Definitely not worth over double the cost better imo.

I still have a pair of J350a's that sound amazing! Sadly the are too big after getting a new entertainment centerMad Still debating between JBL or SVS to replace them.

Unfortunately both Revel and JBL, which are both now owned by Samsung, are getting rid of their mid-level model series. JBL will have the Stage series (entry level, below the Studio series) and super expensive Synthesis series. Haven't heard anything about their Classic line, so I'm assuming those will probably stick around.

$2300 doesn't seem slick on these. $1500? Absolutely, but this is just normal price.

I have the 4339p which has the same compression driver. Sounds great! It's an engaging and dynamic sound that isn't harsh.

Yep, all too often low-info consumers will lump all "horn speakers" into the same "shouty/harsh/shrill" stereotype as entry-level Klipsch Icon/Synergy/Reference speakers. The industry itself is largely to blame because they often use the misnomer "horn speakers" in their marketing, rather than explicitly distinguishing between "compression driver tweeter with horn WAVEGUIDE" vs "metal dome tweeter with horn waveguide."

I haven't heard this speaker in person but reviews seem good yet not overly praised. That said I still think $2300 for this pair is rather expensive because no one wants these in the used market and I suspect you may only resell for under $1000 for the pair. I say that because Wharfedale Linton 85th anniversary edition with stands are a very good speaker pair that often go on sale for $1700 new and on the used market are well worth $1200-1400 and still sell fast. Another option for your money is Klipsch RP-8000F ii sometimes at $800 a pair. Probably best bang for your buck and hold their value. I've bought and sold a lot of hifi speakers and gear and currently I have JBL L100 Classic MKii so I like JBL but this HDI-3600 has not built a following.

The HDI series have always been stupidly overpriced, aimed at the ASC (audiophool-snob crowd) chasing prettier cabinets and bragging rights, not value driven consumers, and always had weak demand.

Bringing the much higher-PtP Studio 6 series to the US market (they had been in the Asian market for almost a decade before) was the final nail in the coffin. Personally I would take the 698 over the 3600 in a heartbeat since I have zero ASC aspirations. 😆

Be very careful!!! shady amazon employees. ordered a pair of jbl 690, one arrived, and I will soon be on my 3rd replacement as 2 replacements have been "lost in transit". Tracking says its lost leaving amazon, but not arriving to ups. pretty sure its getting stolen from amazon employees.
Just got off the phone with Amazon, and now my 3rd replacement is being shipped?!?!? Asked them to escalate this case because who loses a box with a big ass speaker twice.

Mid-tier Performa4 line has been announced but no word on their entry Concerta line or the PerformaBe line.
